rear-ended someone on 280S last week. body shop said it was totaled (repairs exceeded 70% of value) but AAA okayed it for repairs. going to settle and part it out and get something newer.
who wants what? pics will be up in a few days...
only things of interest are the HID retrofit (one headlight was damaged, I'll have to see if it still works or if the shop just unplugged it), GC coilovers and koni yellows, SPC camber kits front and rear, legend calipers, Inspire tails, JDM trunk spoiler, 4 curbed Rota D2 rims with tires, and 4 Prelude base rims with tires.

happened last week during the morning rush out of SF. changed lanes to the left and traffic suddenly stopped and i couldn't stop in time. it was a slow hit, my bumper slid under the jetta's bumper and my grill and a headlight took most of the brunt. me and the other guy are fine. very minor damages but new parts are so expensive and given how rare used parts are, the repairs are kind of ridiculous.
sad to say it but it makes no sense to pour so much money into such an old car. taking this as a sign to move on, on to something more fun, more powerful, more rwd. any suggestions? leaning towards a bigger sedan like an 03 540i or GS430. did ken just get a new car? E55?

Oh boy! not you, too.
. I came in this thread looking for a better update than this. Wan't expecting this at all. Sorry to hear that Andrew but glad you are safe.
If its not as bad as mine and is fixable, I might be interested in whole car.
GS430 or 540i, tough choice, its totally your call.

What!?!?! I don't come on here for a while and there is another accident? Sorry to hear about your car Andrew, but I really think you should keep it. I'll source a used hood for you, it really shouldn't be too much. From the sounds of it, its not terrible and can be fixed for much cheaper with used parts, but I won't know until I see some pictures. You've put so much time, effort, and money over the past 8 years and you're about to let everything go? Not to mention the rest of car's body is still really clean and the mileage is still very low. I have friends telling me every once in a while that they see Arthur's car driving around.... but they do a double take and realize that its extremely clean and glossy and in fact, not Arthur's car. haha I'll give you a call a bit later.
And yes, I did get another car.

Hey, it's glossy when I decide to wash it!
About the 430 vs 400, the 400 is quicker. That's about it, haha. You could also pick up a 400 for less, and use the difference to clean it up.
~Cheers~

you going by this?
maybe .1 sec faster accel wise because of the DBW (and i admit it does suck)... but once the car is moving, the extra torque def does help... about 2 yrs now and i simply love the GS...

The closest one I've been able to find is at pick-n-pull Oakland. It's off a 97 TL but the online inventory does not show whether it is a 2.5 or a 3.2. I think if you have the time to run over there to take a look, it would be worth it. They just placed it out two days ago and it is at row #32.

Anyway, here's a pic of the damage.

Not that bad at all. I already pulled out the grill section but there is still a bulge in the hood, it looks like its open when it's shut. When it was at shop, one of the HID bulbs shattered. Haven't done anything else to investigate what's broken, assuming all the tabs are gone on the driver's side headlight.
Test drove a 2003 540i Sport and it was ridiculously powerful compared to the TL. The seller was not forthcoming about anything so no sale for him. Picked up a mint 2003 530i Sport instead. No 540i power but more power than the TL, better gas mileage too.
I was back and forth about parting/donating/junking/selling the TL or keeping it. Decided to keep it after all. Ken was right, I poured too much into the TL to abandon it. I have a spare set of headlights and a spare grill lying around so all I need is a hood. Ken pointed me to a hood in Oakland, haven't had a chance to look at it yet.
Thanks to everyone who pointed me to used hoods in the area.
Pics of the bimmer to come.

that's not bad at all! Arthur's hood was worse than that. Swapping the headlight hardware into the new housing should be cake and luckily, the radiator support looks untouched. The 1st link provided by DUECEON9ER for the hood in west sac looks fairly clean. You should definitely check it out!
What color is the bimmer? Get some pics up! Everyones going euro now. haha
