custom USDM taillights

i dont know if you guys remember me posting a thread a while back titled, "taillights--> yay or nay". well, im finished with the project and i finally had time to take pics. it basically consists of the USDM housing in black, 5X7 sealed beam headlight and 91-95 legend clear front turn signals. i know it doesnt flow all that well with the style of my car BUT im pretty sure its safe to say that im the only TL in the country with these, if not, atleast hawaii. the only reason why i decided to do this is because my OEM ones were just lying around collecting dust. so, i would not attempt to do this IF you dont have a spare set lying around.
its 100% operational and uses the stock retaining clips from the sealed beam and the turn signal.

so what do you guys think?
tooo rice?
too altezzaISH looking?

You are the only one in the States because I abandoned the idea awhile ago, haha. The only other one I know of is that guy back in Japan who did the same thing.

~Cheers~

i thought you were gonna attempt the LED ones thats like $600? yep, the only other one i know of is in Japan. thats why i couldnt say, im the only one in the world.

ill try to get night pics with it lit up within the next couple of days.

and thanks to everyone else with the compliments.

colt- my JDM ones arent in the best of shape either. i mean, the lens is good but the back of it is another story. i got tired of drilling holes in the amber box, so i did some cutting on the bulb hole to pull out the amber box and one out of the four mounting points on each taillight is missing but it still holds to the car very nicely. the bulb still fits in but its not snug. i can take pics if you want.

I was, but cost was a prohibitive factor, so I considered this. Then I gave up because after my accident, I didn't have a spare set of taillights to work on while I was driving around. OT but, I just got some water into my right headlight... I think the water managed to get in through that little vent tube since I don't have a fender liner. Damn what a simple piece of plastic, or lack of, can do!!

~Cheers~

Does this mean that now you are going to have HIDs installed as your brake lights?

no no no... im still using the stock bulb. i will never put HIDs in my tails. i tried using LED 1157 but the brightness between the 2 stages wasnt a significant change so i took them out. but i do have LEDs in the turn signal area.

j-specTL-- For your mirror did you mount that on the windshield itself, or did you somehow use the previous stem from old mirror? Im curious if this had anything to do with the mirror vibrating from bass. I have the same problem, and was not sure of good after market rear view mirrors.

A general question to the acurazine family is, what size/number is the trunk light?

the mirror is a broadway one. it just clips on over the original one. the trunk light is a 168/192 wedge bulb.

for everyone else, mahalo for the compliments

I personally use a Galahad one in the TL. Broadways were left to my other cars.

Wait, you had a tsuna or fusa? Shirotsuna is what J-Spec has, Shiro fusa is what I have... ?

~Cheers~

P.S. And yes, you are a very generous guy! A JP fusa runs about ¥10,000+!

Tell me about it. Back in Taiwan, I gave this Indonesian girl 18K white gold and diamond earring and I didn't get anything either.

I have a 400mm broadway convex mirror in my tl. Clipped on the left side almost touches the windshield but it literally covers anything as far as mirror needs. With it adjusted to my size, i can see out even the drivers and passanger windows from looking in the rear view. Work great for passing someone 4 inches from their bumper at 120. haha.

25 bucks shipped. Just dont get the blue mirror. Get the clear standard one.
