Will this Tire Fit?

Will a P205/75 R15 tire fit a 97 2.5TL? Recommended tire is P205/60 R15. This change increases tire diameter from 24.7inch to 27.1-inch, ~10% increase or 2.4" total. I tried searching but could not answer this specific question. Certainly larger tires are possible, but how much larger? This increase looks reasonable, and I'll try to check as best I can when car is again home (my son drives it). I thought someone may have already tried this swap.

I want to slightly decrease rpms (better gas mileage?), but more specifically hope to trick the TCU into thinking the tire speed is slower to prevent P0740 code. This code is set when TCU detects 5-12% slippage (speed dependent) between engine drive and drive train, indicating the lockup torque converter is not engaging. I hate that CEL, but trans works too good to justify pulling to repair probably a worn oring on torque converter. However, I would like to know if something else should set a code. Driving w/ CEL on all the time is not good. I can turn it off w/ my Obd2 scanner, but it will usually come back on the first time you engage the speed control at highway speed.

thanks

It should fit without much issue. I think that the difference in feel due to the increased diameter should be negligible. Well, negligible in terms of lost acceleration, etc, but the improvement in comfort will be felt.

they say 2" larger in diameter is reasonable from stock size. Anything larger than 2" is pushing it.

205-60 from a 205-75 isn't bad. you'll just have a bigger gap in your fender hehe and as go mentioned, the feel will be diff but im not sure about improvement in comfort. i think the larger the middle number, the percentage of the first 3 digit number, the more comfortable the ride will be...at least thats what i notice

^ That's what I had meant. Little bumps won't be as jarring, etc.

Thanks for the replies. I'll check carefully when I get the car by turning wheels to extreme positions and measuring clearances. I'll post what I find.
