Will I need resistors for signal/marker LEDs?
Hello,
I searched the forums, but cannot find exactly what I am looking for...
I want to purchase clear bumpers and LEDs, for the 7440 signals and 168 markers...can I just pop in the LEDs or do I need to splice in resistors? Are all LEDs the same when it comes to needing resistors, where some need them and others don't? I would appreciate it.
Thank you.

Also, I asked the LED suppliers the same question, but they say "most cars do not need resistors, but some luxury cars do", "LEDs use less power than OEM, so some cars' systems detect a missing bulb, or the LED will blink fast when the signal is on".
Any knowledge appreciated.

Do they blink at normal speed or fast? What kind of LED are you using? Thanks.

most newer cars with the "blinker out" feature will need a resistor.
The LED supplier is semi-correct...if the lights are not turn signals, then you can just pop them in without a resistor. But for any new car (such as most late model Acuras), if you're replacing the turn signal bulbs then you will most likely need resistors, otherwise it will blink fast because the system will act like the bulb is burned out.
There are some places out there that sell the turn signal bulbs along with the resistors required...but just remember that these resistors get HOT when operating, so you have to think a little about where to mount them so you don't risk burning anything.

most likely yes. I don't know of any car made after 1990 that didn't include the faster blinker if a bulb is out system. An easy way to see if any car has this system is to simply take a turn signal bulb out and turn on the blinker to that side. If the blinker blinks faster, then it does.
All LEDs will need some kind of resistor connected to them. The pre-made LED bulbs you can simply plug into the stock harness almost always have a resistor wired in already for you.
