I have 6.5's also. All you need is a trim ring. You can get them from www.selectproducts.com.

I see them. Click on Select products on the left, then click Fiberglass Accessories.

You could probably modify the factory speaker basket.

I want to do the same thing. I am using my stock head unit but i want to change the door panel speakers to 6.5" (cuz I have a pair just sitting around). Do you guys think that it is a good idea? Will the sound actually improve with this speakers compared to the stock ones? Please advise.

it'll get better... but it depends on what you're looking to get out of it. with those 4 ohms coming out of our weak head units, nothing is going to bang, but they ought to sound better at higher volumes if they're good speakers. I did this, but I did a whole front component set, two tweeters (on dash) and two door 6.5"s, and replaced the 6x9's, all JBL GTO's.... it sounds much better, but doesnt really bang, our H.U's werent meant to handle that loud shhh in 96
