Trouble starting when it rains or snows...

Hmm....
My car is a bit moody or something, LoL!
Anytime it rains or snow, my car doesn't seem to want to start, it starts eventually after trying for awhile, but yeah...I don't know whats wrong with it.
When it's dry out and nice, it starts up right away, just when it snows or rains...

Any idea's? I think it may be the spark plug...but I dunno...

Thanks for any help.

I have only had my car for a few weeks, but I noticed my car starts pretty much right away as long as its freezing or above. It actually snowed a few inches here today, but when I was brushing off the snow, it was melting on the windows so it must have been like 34 or so. Anyways, mine started fine today, but when its cold (anything around 20 or below) and windy, its usually a little more tempermental. Dont know if that helps, but thats what I've seen.

The starters in the Legends and 1st generation 3.2 TL's are bad. Apparently it was fixed for the RL. I have problems only when the engine itself is cold.

On a warm sunny day, no problem at all.

You may have a cracked distributor cap. When the weather gets cold & wet, moisture could get in and hamper the spark. One way to do a visual check is to open the hood with the engine running when it is completely dark outside. If you have a crack, you'll see the blue sparks through the housing.

Also, check your coil and plug wires for cracking, as this could have the same effect.

Do you hear a loud "click" noise and then NOTHING happens?

Thumbs up

What year is your tl and how many miles you have on it??

My car used to do the same thing, i try to start it everytime it rains or snows back then, but no luck. The reason for this is because the rain makes the spark plugs moist and no spark will flare. I had to eventually get a tune up!! :banghead:

But trust me, do it now so when next time you go away or something, you dont have to be stuck in your car when it rains!

Its not the spark plugs, its the starter contacts.
