transmission info

I was talking to this gentlemen who said he use to work with transmissions in the 80s and 90s. i told him that my tranny shifts rough at times and asks him if doing a tranny flush helps. he said no b/c when you put in new oil, its not "use" to that oil and it will eventually slip. he said the best bet is to keep the fluid in there and never flush it out since its "use" to the fluid already. It makes sense, right?

agree? disagree? comments?

i would say that is incorrect. cars are not people and do not get 'used' to stuff like that. haikoo. what would be the point of doing anything to a car? now i'm not sure what transmissions he worked on....but i'm betting, with that thinking, that he worked on them a lot....cuz they went out due to non flushes.

the thing about our cars, too (mine is a 96 2.5), is that they really don't have a 'filter' in the tranny. so in that respect, you don't have to get a filter change, cuz there isn't one. but a flush at the designated miles....very appropriate.

Its a load of crap, things wear out and transmission fluid wears out as well, eventually it will no longer do its job. Flush it.

I'm sure the transmission does indeed hvae to get "used" to the new fluid, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be done.
