Time for a new battery... but what?

When my TL didn't start when I went home a few weeks ago, I was worried. Then I remember my auto shop training and realized the battery must've been dead or very weak.

My dad didn't think so since the lights still worked (but they were obviously dim) and he argued otherwise. But it didn't matter since I couldn't drive my car as it was unisured. No point in wasting money since I can't bring it here to college and it just sits at home.

Just a few days ago he tells me it must've been the battery after he used his car to jump mine. The battery's getting to that point where it needs to be changed, it's 4 years old I think. Or maybe it discharged too much since it was rarely started...

So, time for a new battery... I'll be home in a month and I want to drive my damn car when I get there. I want to know, what's the best battery for our TLs (96 3.2TL Premium) that'll be in the midwest (so I'll have to put up with cold temps)? I heard that those Optima batteries are the best but they're very expensive... what's the advantage to them? I'm thinking something along the $60-70 dollar range but might be able to get something more expensive.

not all optima battery fit our car. You have to check on the size. also optima put out a lot of output so if you have a crazy stereo system that requires power, performance batteries such as optima would be great. optima comes in blue top, yellow top, and red top. they cost about 100 bucks. If you dont have a high wattage stereo system, just stick with the cheaper batteries to replace the one you have. it shouldn't be any more than 60-70 bucks.

Optima dont make batteries for the TL 2.5. although I dont know about the 2.3 model.

Anyway, the Acura Vigor shares the same battery specs as the TL 2.5.
So what you ask for a battery, tell its for a any year Acura Vigor.

Since these batteries are a different size than the stcok batteries, you will need to mod the battery holding bracket to hold the Optima.
Other rhan that, it works fine with no problem.
At first I got a Bosch battery. But then sold it and bought the Optima battery at Autozone for $129. You will have to call up each Autozone to check if they carry them because not all branches carry Optima batteries.

goodluck.

I just bought battery last week for my 2.5 TL from Costco which has 100 months warranty and 36 month return policy.
Most battery usually comes with 72 months warranty.

I don't have a very powerful system but my old battery had some problems with my aftermarket HU (Pioneer) where if I turned it up, the lights inside would dim noticeably and the headlights would dim a little during high bass sequences.

So I could use a battery with a bit more juice than normal. My current battery is from a Farm & Fleet.

Pretty much any battery you get is going to be ok... as far as reliability, think about household batteries... duracell, energizer, rayovac... you wouldnt hesitate to just pick one of the shelf they are the same... Dont pour money into one of those Optimas, those are meant for people who have rediculous systems and all kinds of auxilary things...Most all auto batteries have incredible warranties too... I worked at napa and most ours had a 1 yr free replacement, and after that up to 6 yrs pro rated where you only pay a minimal amount for it to be replaced

Alright then, I guess this will make it easier and cheaper for me. I think compare what I can get for $60-70 with what's in my car now. I have a feeling that my current battery is a sucky one.

Thanks guys.

I paid like 58 bucks or so for a duralast battery from autozone, works fine and allows my sister's TL to start up fine everytime.
