I'm using an Orbital with 690 CCA and around 900 CA. It's a 6-cell which looks like 6 spray cans wrapped in black plastic, and costs about $150. I have a thing against Optimas...

if you don't have an audio system, you could just save your money and get the cheaper battery at autozone or wal-mart or wherever.

If you do have a system with a powerful amp and need the extra juice, go for the yellow top optima or kinetik.

Try Costco (Kirkland) car batteries. Only $55. I use them on my 2003 TL and '96 Tl. Works great.

^ Probably heavy as shit, though. I have a spare Kragen battery from the 88 Accord that is brand new. That thing weighed at least 25-35% more than the Orbital I'm using, with a smaller capacity, something to the tune of 6xx CA.

This thread got me wondering what kind of battery that I have. So I went and looked and I've never even heard of the battery that I have. I think the brand is Delphi or something like that. I've never even heard of it before, but I guess that it doesn't matter because my car runs nice.

Delphi made the tranny for the 98-02 Accords and the 2G TLs, IIRC. It's a big American auto company, hence the shitty quality control.

Not necessarily, but it does stain the image of the company. I don't trust American companies much... Not after our brand new (at the time) 2001 Ford Escape blew three alternators in a year, my TOTL Grand Cherokee melted the blower motor and harness twice, etc. etc. etc.

~Cheers~

krazie: last i saw at sam's club, there was a book at the battery dept where they tell you the model for which optima you'll need for your year car. The book not only tells you which optima fits your car but all the brands that they carry. I am very sure every place that sells car batteries has a book for which model/brand fits which car. if there is not a book, they can look it up on their computer.

I think my next battery is going to be the yellow top optima. at sam's, about a year ago, they cost around 130 bucks or soemthing? its not cheap

I hate Optimas. Red top is what crapped out in my friend's car. He didn't want to listen to me and it was my Orbital that saved his ass when he was stranded. After sitting in my non-op car for a month, I dropped it into his car and it fired right up. allowing him to drive another day until he could fix his alternator.

~Cheers~

i just went thru an optima red top battery 1000 ca, well actually its still crankin the car, but its fading fast. i had it tested and it has 12volts but hardley any amps. i do have a monoblock amp sucking juice from it pretty vigurously even with the 1.5 farad cap. i had it for about 4 years now. i guess its about time. im getting a yellow top (meant for more deep cycle voltage drops) next (monday hopefully) good luck g

I just bought a Die Hard Gold. I have used them for 17 years without any problems.....but I change them every four years just to be safe. If I wanted a battery that I was going to keep for a long time, I would definitely get the Die Hard Platinum. Consumer Reports rated them #1.

Consumer Reports rated Die Hard Platinum #1 for all batteries. I did not get one because I plan on keeping my car only for three more years.
