Strange headlight problem

About 2 weeks ago my passenger side headlight started going out intermittenly. When it went ou I'd flick the lights off and then back on and it would immediately come back on and then eventually after a little while would turn off again. Today when driving home from work at 6pm (dark out) both headlights went out. I flicked them off and on twice and they finally came back on. A few minutes later my passenger side light went out again, but the driverside remained on for 25mins or so until I got home. I checked the wiring and everything seems fine. Could this be a ballast or ignitor issue? If so where are they located and what should I look for as a possible culprit?

Wrong section, m8, but us 1G'ers are accommodating!

So, what colour do your lights look like when they do turn on? Pinkish? When they first come on after being off for awhile (more than a few hours), do they give off a much brighter flash or light than usual just for a split second before going back to "normal" operation? If that flash does happen, do you see green light?

If you answered yes to any of the questions, you're in need of new bulbs.

~Cheers~

It could be a bad relay, but more likely a bad column switch. You need a wiring diagram, VOM, and some checking to trace the problem.

good luck

I had the same problem a while back on my old 87 nissan maxima. It was the column switch like TexasHonda has indicated; the part where you rotate to turn the headlights on had connection problems. I had to wiggle it and turn it on and off a few times to get them both on.
