Is the Check Engine Light illuminated? If yes, what codes are stored?

Does the inst. panel show N or P when you are cranking? You could have a defective drive selection switch allowing cranking when engine is in a drive gear. Engine could start in gear if the lockout mechanism is not working correctly.

What year, engine TL do you have?

good luck
