the rear deck is 6x9 and the front doors are either 6.5 or 5.25. everyone here will tell you it's 6.5 but i have 5.25 and i tried everything to get the 6.5's to fit and they just wouldn't and the 5.25's fit perfect heh. also, the fronts are component speakers so if you get a speaker with a tweeter in it, it might make the highs a little too sharp up front. just from my own experience so i got a midbass instead and the tweeter in the dash sounds fine with it.

i have 96 2.5tl, for me 6.5 worked for front and 6x9 for rear...through the installation of the front speakers i figured we got 2 puny speakers at the front too...but they pump less than my earphones on my discman can.

When you say you have trouble fitting the 6.5, do you mean width-wise or depth-wise?

What's the max depth.... anyone?

well to fit the 5.25's i had to actually take that white bracket off the door and cut the entire back of it off. i think the max depth on that was 2.5".

and as far as fitting, the holes on the bracket didn't line up at all. not even close. but the 5.25's holes were perfectly aligned.

they're audiobahn AMD50Q midbass driver 5.25's. i got the 6.5 version of it but it was wayyyyyyyyy too deep to mount b/c the magnet was like a small sub heh. i did have the 6.5's though in my old car and i had 150 watts running to them and man did they slam! obviously not like a sub but they were pretty crazy for a 6.5.

My 6.5" fit like a dream. It's boils down to how you cut the frame. Daemonicus' cutting is rather brutal (sorry), as mine literally only has the outer ring. Clean shaven as well. Also, don't worry if the logo for the speakers has to be upside down for the holes to bolt up, the speakers will still play, hehe.

~Cheers~

hah ya i really didn't care how the cutting looked b/c the only way you would see it was if you took the whole bracket assembly out. and i actually had to mount them upside down b/c on the top of the bracket there's a little indent (i guess?) and so i had to cut that b/c it's the only way the terminals would clear the bracket.

Yeah, my fronts are also mounted upside down. I don't really mind as the 4cm difference all adds in to a better average difference in the distance of the speakers to your ears. Better soundstaging after all, hehe.

~Cheers~
