3.2 comes equipped with platinum plugs. Those are good for 120k miles.

2.5 has copper ones I understand. 30ish is average for those.

Nothing is good for that long, even with all cars, the suggested mileage of replacement is at 105k, not 120k. The owner's manual suggests that all 3.2 models to replace spark plugs at 60k miles while the 2.5 at 30k.

Do you need to gap the plugs even if you buy specifically for the right model any year of the car?

Only dealer plugs are correctly pre-gapped, if they're gapped. Otherwise, I'd check the gap to make sure.

How much are these platinum plugs you speak of? And is there any way to check and see if your plugs are new/old is you don't have complete service records?

NGK Platinum XI for $40 shipped via ebay. One of the best investments I have ever made. Had Bosch Plat 4's = sucky. IMO. "ass dyno" told me that the NGK killed the Bosches and upon further research found that the Bosch plugs are designed to run on German cars better. Weird, don't ask... But just run NGK's. You'll be much happier and your car will pull like it hasn't in a long while!

I got a set of Denso Iridiums and replaced at 60K miles. Nice plugs. Bosch are also very good plugs. Both the Denso's and the Bosch come pregapped. Stay away from Splitfires or any other cheap plug. A good buddy of mine put Splitfires into his '99 Mustang, and the tips broke off and fell into the engine...

I get mine done every 50 000km, with copper plugs. It's cheap and easy to do. I just buy the plugs off the parts centre for the dealer (it's cheap for those), and then I install myself because it's so easy to remove and insert new ones on the 2.5L engine.
