Pretty sweet. I got something like 28.2 MPG with highway driving for most of the tank, but about 75 in town. I was amazed.

Around town though, I have got as low as 18 MPG, and as high as 25 MPG without getting onto the highway. Pretty wide variety of driving styles I got myself huh?

I average 20 mpg on my 3.2...mostly city driving and sometimes highway on weekends. But I always fill up at like 10-11 gallons so I only use about 200-250 miles per tank. I wish I could get 25 mpg or higher but it isn't that big of a deal to me.

Its not a big deal to me either but i find it interesting that the 3.2 TL is rated 24 mpg on the highway when I'm doing well past that.

Its not quite the gas hog it appears to be on paper.

It seems like many cars are underrated, due to how they actually test the highway/city driving and get the milage. I'm sure my 22/28 MPG is a bit better then the paper says too.

2.5 right?

EPA says you should be doing about 25 on the highway.

On the '03 TL I get upwards of 33 mpg with regular gas.

And some '03+ V6 Accord owners are getting 35 or 36 mpg.

Yup yup, 2.5, hey, I do more than 10% better then the EPA says, I'm happy

I'm hoping to improve my numbers very very slightly too. I got some of that Chevron/Techron fuel system cleaner in there, am hopefully going to change the fuel filter, and then run the Chevron stuff again, along with a new air filter. I need to double check my tire pressure too. It's been a few weeks, and is about 10 degrees colder on average.

well when the rate fuel economy it is rated as if your on the highway fully loaded, speed limit, and all systems working like the a/c power drainer. I got over 28 mpg coming home from ATL and was very impressed. I average like 26/27 most of my road trips doing like 75+. But now I think I need to change my thermostat since my guage is reading low and my overdrive isnt kicking on. anyone else with O.D. problems?

got about 28mpg on a recent trip. Not sure why i get 19, 20s around town. Maybe all those stoplights.

I think memphisraines26 said that they test with ac on, full load etc. i think this is incorrect. if i recall, they test the cars wiith all accessories off and only one driver. But they do subtract 10% of the miileage to get to make it more real world. For example, if they got 30mpg, they would rate as 27mpg, to account for a/c etc.

ken (and others) what tire pressures where u running on this particular trip. And what kind of gas did you use. I've been told by more than one mechanic that the type/quality of gas you use is a factor.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Of course you are on stockers right??? that kills the chances of me beating it... then again mines a 2.5 but i remember between Salinas and Yuma AZ its 586 miles and i can make it almost to indio which is about 440 to 450 miles from where i live... did about 27 or 28 MPG... of course i didn't let my light turn on... i never have and never will... but man... 29.7 MPG...

Now that i have rims etc... and this fuel regulator which i think is set a bit high... I get about 380 miles to the tank... which comes down to about 23 MPG Guess it goes down as you put more accesories... trade of is economy/reliability vs. power... reliability as in how long the car will actually last you... kind of like smokeing to a human... Anyways, congratz... i wonder who can get 30 MPG now???

I bet I could break 30 mpg with no A/C and doing a steady 55 mph.

Unfortunately I'd go insane at such a speed not to mention be a hazard on most freeways.

so you are sure that 55 mph is when the engine is most efficient? again, i must rely on the info i have on my old car. different engine, but same concept. the chevy 3.1 was most efficient when the RPMs ranged between 2750 and 3100. that's about 70 - 83 or so. i got something close to 30 mpg a few years ago when the car had over 100k miles on it. it's a 90, so that's pretty good. no a/c, windows down, that type of drive. but i'm not sure what the most efficient RPM range is on the 2.5 (stock, since mods may change it).

Most efficient depends on torque curves, gearing and such.

But for almost all cars these days, its about 55 to 65 mph.

I've done nearly 29 mpg. driving from here to Washington D.C. with the cruise on 75-80. At 65 I probably could've gotten nearly 30 MPG. Around town I get 22 0r 23 MPG. I average about 24-25 a tank because I drive a mixed variety.

Wow!! That's pretty impressive. I do 50/50 city/highway driving and I can only go about 284 miles at little below the last quarter mark. I filled up with 13.164 gallons of gas and that basically equates to 21.57 mpg. I've done better on some occations though. I've gotten up to 26.09 mpg once doing highway only so that's not too bad at all.

i think style of driving, cruising speed, accessories, etc. all factor in. no one will get same even if they use same gas, etc. too many variables. but i know gunning it lots means worse mpg lol. i haven't gotten on this car but MAYBE twice since i've had it. not sure why, but maybe the 'luxury' is getting to me hehe. it's more of cruisin and just being laid back then gunning it lots. easy drivin

btw W00T W00T...... 100th post!!

For the longest time once I got it, I was ncie and easy on it, it was so much more easy to break the tires loose, straight line or around a turn, then it ever was in my volvo. Even still after having it for months, I don't get on it really, I'll roll into WOT, but never just stomp on it.

It may. From what I understand it messed with the fuel mapping. For some people it gives them worse gas mileage.

Seems to actually improved mine on the the highway though.

yes you heard me...12mpg.

this is city driving grandma-style. I'll have to check my tire pressure again. It is at 32front/32rear. Perhaps i should try the same pressure as you.

tire pressure is NOT your problem. Is the engine warming up after running for about 5 minutes. The reason I ask is that Im having the same problem with my accord (about 17-18mpg combined!!! when it should be at least 26mpg). I believe its cause my coolant is too rich and so the engine isn't warming up. After driving for an hour straight on the hwy, the needle doesn't even budge. From what Ive heard, the car will go into a warm up mode when the engine is cold and that wastes gas. I drained some of the coolant, and poured in straight water instead, and that helped a bit.

Try spark plugs as well - maybe their worn

Fuel Filter - maybe its clogged?

Lets us know how it goes

I am 2G TL-S owner...

I know this is a 1G topic, but wanted to share my astonishing MPG...

I drove from the Silicon Valley to the Sacramento area, and decided to fill up right before I left, and take a measurement as soon as I got back... I drove from my home to the Sacramento office...parked there all day...and drove back... So there was almost no city driving at all...all highway...

I came out with 30.039 MPG... It really amazed me, since my city driving usually yields between 16 and 19 MPG...

I kept it in sports shift mode both ways, took off from stops very mildly (though it was mostly freeway...so not many stops at all), and made sure I was in 5th gear on the freeways as much as possible...

It wasn't a fun or "spirited" drive at all... But I was curious to see what I could eek out of my car...

I usually let me car idle for about 3 minutes before i drive off and when i drive off, i drive like a granny until my needle is normal and i drive it like any other person.

my coolant mixture is 50/50. spark plugs, air filter, etc were all checked. It was replaced about 5 months ago by the previous owner. I baby this car like no other and take all the procedures to ensure its healthy. All the basic stuff have been done and I usually work on myself unless I need to open the tranny up or something like that then I go to my uncle's shop to use his tools and we work on stuff. Perhaps when he's not busy, we can go open up the block to clean all the gunk out. lol.

We'll see

Damn, I feel jealous, I get about 380-400 KMS on a tank, filling up about 1/3 down from the last 1/4 mark to the empty mark. That's only like 250 MILES to a tank!! I must drive damned hard!! LOL

I do the same... I reset my trip odometer every time I fill up... I try to keep all things constant by not topping off the tank and just waiting for the first "click" as an indicator that the tank is full...

Then I divide the miles travelled on that tankful by the number of gallons I purchased...

Pretty simple, really...

Alright, sometimes it just bugs me cause people are like oh well I got 150 miles on half a tank so I got crappy milage, not realizing they just got 20+ MPG. I have a friend who just got a new car and he figures everything by 1/4s of a tank, he won't realize that the guage isn't linear most of the time. Buh.

oh I KNOW my TL's fuel gauge isn't linear...I get 140 KMS before I go down past the 3/4 mark, then it evens out around half to about 210 or some but by the last quarter I am usually already at about 350 kms, only another50 or so to go before almost empty.... (And yes I DO know where empty is, ran out of gas last WINTER froze my ass off waiting for my bro to bring me some!!!) :P

Well when I drive my tl I figure it out by filling the tank completely and then drive it til it hits the E on my gauge. Then fill it til its full and use that many gallons divded by the mileage I drove. But when I do that I get stuck paying for the gas and my dad or sister takes the car cus its full. No one wants to drive it when its near empty or they drive it and tell me that I need to fill it up before I go to work because I won't have enough to make it.

i do it the other way. Fill it up and drive until i hit my gas light comes on. When it does, i take the mileage and divide it by full tank minus 3 gallons.

my car just sucks (no pun intended)

Agreed...and that is why I feel pretty confident with my method... I almost always use the same gas station... It is always d*mn near close to level ground... I use my fuel almost to empty (though this part is a little variable...sometimes the fuel indicator is glowing, and other times not)... And I wait until I get the first click, indicating my tank is full...

The mileage is accurate, as I am taking it right off the car odometer... The gas consumption is accurate, as I am taking it right off the pump display... There is no eyeballing estimates...

Granted, there are some things that you just cannot account for...but I think my calculations are as close as I need to get them...
