recall notice

got this from the NHTSA web site under the "recall" link. FYI, i read that dealers have to fix the recall problems REGARDLESS of how old the car is or when the recall notice was issued. therefore, if you have a 1996 TL, they still have to fix the recall problem.

NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number: 99V069000
Component: SUSPENSION:INDEPENDENT FRONT CONTROL ARM:LOWER:BALL JOINT
Manufacturer: AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR CO.

Year: 1996 Make: ACURA Model: TL Recall Date: 05/10/1999

Type of Report: Vehicle
Potential Number of Units Affected: 124875
Manufactured: 05/1996 - 08/1996
Defect Summary:
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER VEHICLES. CERTAIN VEHICLES WERE MANUFACTURED WITH BALL JOINTS THAT CAN PREMATURELY WEAR OUT AND, IN THE WORSE CASE, THE BALL JOINT WOULD SEPARATE CAUSING THE FRONT SUSPENSION TO COLLAPSE.
Consequence Summary:
THIS CONDITION WOULD RESULT IN VEHICLE DECELERATION AND A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER. ALSO STEERING CONTROLLABILITY WOULD BE REDUCED.
Corrective Summary:
DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE FRONT SUSPENSION LOWER BALL JOINTS
