Random no start on my 3.2

So I drove around all day yesterday mostly stop and go and a few times I shut it off and restarted the car after 10 minutes or so and had no problems, everything was cool and groovy. I got home after this long day and the car sat for an hour or so. Went to leave the house again and click, no start. Battery is good, main relay clicks when key is turned, but no crank, no nothing. Tried is 10 or so times, nothing. Assumed starter issue. This morning went to pop the hood and for the hell of it turned the key and boom she starts right up like a brand new baby. Had been starting all day perfect.
So whats the deal, starter beginning to go bad? The terminals on the starter going? or something else? You decide. Any suggestions would be appreciated, car has no other running problems, runs like a top. BTW car has 320K miles and needs a new VSS if those have any bearing on information.

Sounds like what I have experienced lately, and mines turns out to be starter going bad. Only happens on cold days for some reason though. You may want to check the ground and wiring terminals of starter if you can get to it.

It's the starter, its a known issue on these cars. The contacts are bad.

You can either replace the starter or get an electric shop to repair the contacts. I did the latter and it never gave me any problems for almost six years after that (I recently sold the car and it still starts fine)

You'll need to remove the driver's side wheel to get access to it.

The starter on our cars last on average of 8 years. The previous owner of my car replaced it in 03 from the reciept found in the car. It's now going bad again...
