Radio Mods

Does anyone know the speaker sizes for our cars? I know most of you guys have aftermarket radios I was wondering which ones fit without doing any modifacations to the radio area.

The stock speaker sizes are 5 1.4 in the front and 6x9 in the rear. you can fit a 61/2 in the front though.

We don't have any speakers on the rear door panels right?

Also I believe we have 2 tweeters around the dome lights...

You know those speaker looking things right by the windshield? What are those and can you replace them? If so what size are they???

Any single CD player will fit (with no major modifications) as long as you have the installation kit and wire harness for the 96-98TL. i have a premier 730

those are tweeters, they have a special function, fequency, I cant remember what it is. The problem with replacing those with better ones is their proximity to your head, they're supposed to be weak. I remember someone posting about having those and getting better ones, and talking about how when he got out of the car he felt like his ears were gonna bleed:p

I doubt you could blow the stock ones, seeing as how little power goes to them as it is. You have to put your ears right up to them to notice the sound coming out.

YES. I blew out my dome tweeters. I blew it out by splicing the stock wires to an amp. don't bother hooking up the domes, they suck. they are too piercingly high.

What about the actual radio when replacing it the stock radio is so fat while replacement radios generally are skinny. How does a repalcement radio fill up the extra space? Also has anyone just replaced the speakers and left the radio stock? Any pixs?

I left the stereo stock, non-Bose and replaced my front speakers and dash tweeters... I dont have pics, as I just had a freind do it while I was at school. I put 6.5's in, and my installer didnt have trouble. The head unit is weak as hell, my shht sounds better than it did, and I had blown both stock ones. I like the sound, Im gonna get a new head unit, but I got lots more to do before that....I think we only put out like 4 ohms or somethin like that.
