Possible Valve cover leak

I thought it was exhaust fumes, but after looking under the hood on the passanger side, I see where oil is leaking. I'm pretty sure it's the valve cover, because there is nothing else over there. Is this a tuff job? and are there any dyi's on how this is done?

It is an easy job. I'm not aware of any DIY for 2.5TL's. You could download the online manual on this forum for help.

My only advice would be to be careful not to overtighten the valve cover nuts and to remove distributor wears to allow good access to install rear end of the cover. Make sure you install the spark plug tube seals same way as originals.

Oil leaks on 2.5TL are common from distributor and the oil filter extension under the distributor ( a real fun job)

good luck

Don't know how to post pics but the leak is almost directly under the pcv valve and hitting the manifold cover. Does this mean it's definately the valve cover gasket? All this time I thought it was an exhaust leak comming into my cabin so I put the setting on re-circulated air to stop the fumes from comming in and it worked.

Looks like a valve cover gasket leak to me. Try cleaning that up when the engine is cold and run a piece of rag under the side of the valve cover where it meet near the edge by the mainfold cover to clean that up a little. Drive normally for a day or so and check that part again to see if the leak is coming from there serverly. If it is a leak, you should be able to run your finger under the side of the valve cover at the bottom and get oil on your finger. As a reminder to do this only with a cold engine as you don't want to burn yourself.

I have replaced my valve cover gasket couple of times.
Very easy DIY.

While you at it, replaced all 5 spark plug seals as well.

Buy the valve cover gasket kit. It's not more than $45.00 at the dealer.

Ok, so it's best to get this kit from the dealer and not a pepboys or another parts store?

That's up yo you. But the price difference is not so much for you not to get it at the dealer.

Look at #1, it the list. That's all you need for a valve cover and spark plug job.
It's $37.08 + s/h.
This is for 2.5 TL.

Question 1996 2.5TL oil leaks

Good evening all i was wondering if there is dyi on how to fix the gasket leak on a 1996 2.5TL. Apparently i have a leak near the distributor as well as the oil filter adapter?!? Where ever that may be!! lol I am new to this site, recently out of college and wanted to ensure i knew what and where the problem was before trying to buy parts. Also where can i find the oil filter adapter, not on my car on the market. Thank you all for any advice or tips.

never mind, just needed to use a little pry bar to loosen it up, it was a lot easier than I thought. Only pain was getting the gasket to stay on while I put the cover back on.

Drive the car for few miles and make sure there's no leak.
I messed it up big time, I took the car on the highway after putting the new gasket and it was leaking, gasket did not sit right, on the exhuast manifold. It was most caught fire.

Dam, I can see how that would happen, because getting that gasket to stay still while putting the cover back on was tuff. What did you end up doing? Was it not tight enough or just not seated right and you re-did the job?

it did not sit right.
I ended up buying new gasket and re-did the job. I use very little clear adhesive sealant on the edges to hold the gasket in place.

where did yours leak from, was it on the side or in the back or front? I did let it run for about 10 minutes after I did the job, i'll take it out for a test in the area tommorrow. Hopefully, I won't have a problem but you never know thanks for the advanced warning. I guess for $28 for the entire kit, if I have to do it again it wouldn't be all that bad.

It was leaking around the back, near pass side firewall.
