Paint

does anyone know of a good way to:

a. get scratches out of paint....semi deep, along with chips (other than touch-up paint which i've done/tried...but wax builds up on the edges making them show more)

b. get a super glossy shine on the paint

c. get the rubber back to black (use product "back to black"?)

d. stop any rust spots

e. help paint last longer, etc.

i've used my fair share of products over the years, but black is super hard to take care of. no more black cars for me, that's for sure. i've washed/wax this one a few times with some decent wax, but the above issues still are present. the scratches are the worst. not sure what product to use, etc. and i don't know what product is best to bring out the best shine. i'm hoping some peeps on here have good experience with this. i even detailed for a year, but those products we used aren't available commercially. also...is a power buffer better than hand buffing? thx all

A. Some polish will do this, wax just sits on top of your paint, but a polish will help to level everything out. You want to take away a small amount of clear coat off from your car, and an abrasive polish will do this.

B. Some polish will do this also. Wax helps to add to the look, but a polish/paint cleaner will be what really helps you. All the swirls/scratches take away from how the paint looks overall. Different products yeild different results.

C. Something like that (I believe it is a dye) should work.

D. The best way to stop that is detailers clay. Small metal particles (brake rotors, fallout, those sorts of thing) will imbed themselves onto your finish. They begin to rust, ruining the paint around them. Detailers clay will remove these particles.

E. Wax. It is a small barrier between your cars paint, and UV rays, acid rain, everything. Keep a good coat of wax on your car, and it will help greatly.

Check out http://www.autopia.org/forums/ or http://www.detailcity.com/ forums, they have been really helpful to me. http://autopia-carcare.com/freeguide.html That is a great book (you can download it for free) to get you started.

You guys with the darker colors are lucky... you can get the paint to reflect much easier than I can with my pearl white.

But pearl white's turns more heads. j/k

That's very clean Wolfy!
