Odd Ticking noise only present @ 3K rpm.
Hi, I have a 96 2.5 with 68K. Everything works well, but recently I have noticed a ticking noise that only seems to be present @ 3k rpm or arround there. its about 70mph. goes away by 65 or 75. doesnt seem to change much if I give more throttle, just speed. I also notice it in the lower gears at the same rpm, or it may be tranny? its not particularly loud, but sounds kind like a leaky exhaust manifold with one cyl. leaking.
It has a constant frequency, and gets louder then quiter as it comes and goes.
The front brakes and rotors have been replaced, was there before and after, (replaced because warped), and the axles looked ok.
It almost sounds like pinging, is that possible, and if so why only at that rpm? is there a change in the fuel or spark curve at arround that rpm?
Any ideas? Thanks
Hilux
