My spark plugs have oil and burn marks

I have a 97 tl 2.5 with 104k, i recently got a check engine light and its indicating i have a misfire and needs a tune up also o2 sensor. I been smelling a a lot burn oil every morning when i first drive the in the morning.

So i pulled on the spark plug wire see burn rust marks and oil smudge on the tip of the 3 of the 5 plugs. Seems like its engine oil or something. I was wondering if its a matter of changing the wires or engine seals. Please help

Looks like the valve cover gasket and the seals are leaking. I have the same problem at the moment.

^ Yes. Check the plug seals, since if you're doing a valve cover gasket, they're included in the set. That should take care of the problem.

~Cheers~

Replacing them may or may not help. I've had trouble getting mine to seal. Good news is it doesn't seem to affect performance, but it's aggravating.

What was the CEL code?

I recently pulled my distributor and found it full of oil. Main seal leaks and the drain path was blocked w/ oring (overlength stuffed in drain path). This allowed oil to accumulate in distributor and eventually a missing/ no-start condition.

good luck

I have oil leaking from distributor also and get it replaced for $400. I did the valve cover gasket myself and it cost me 35 bucks I think. These two were done last spring.

Valve cover, plug seals may not help. I had the same problem and found out some internal seals needed replacing.
I ended up putting in a good used engine.
