Unhappy My new 17's RUB!!!!

hey guys need some help.. i jsut threw my new rims on the car.. the car looks tight as hell except for one problem.. the wheels rub in the back.. when i have 2 ppl in the back oh god its hell and if im driving by myself and hit a bump it rubs.. i can't stand it and i hate the smell of burnt rubber... the tires on there is 215/50/17... i think the 50 is too big and making it too close to the fender.. if i change to 215/40/17 u guys think it would be better and help more???

I had the same problem when i bought my Konig Monsoon's. They were 17 inchers too with a 215/50/17 tire size. It had to do with the offset, and not the tire height. You might want to go with 215/45/17, but then your speedo will be off a little. That's what I did until I bought my TL-S rims and tires a couple years later!!

I just got a set of 215/50VR17's for my '97 3.2 and they rub in exactly the same way. I had the eibach prokit lowering springs installed at the same time, and I think that has a lot to do with it. Not sure what I'm going to do, but the place which recommended & sold me the springs has offered to roll the fenders to make more room in the wheel well. Sounds like an invitation to rust to me ... anybody have any experience with rolling fenders?

I have 215/45 with the prokit and I don't even notice a ride difference. At first I thought I was going to feel every little thing on the road but it's not like that at all. Dude I'm telling go with the 45s. They look better too. Well at least that's my 2 cents

I put some masking tape on the bottom lip of my rear fender and then went over some speed bumps. It's just hitting on the inside of the fender lip, so I'm going to get both rear fenders rolled tomorrow. Will let you know how it works out.

Hey, I'm from the GTA too! Where did you get your fenders rolled? And did it solve all your problems? Any cracks in the paint when the shop rolled your fenders?

Love to hear of your experience!

Call Alan at Pickering Tire 905-420-6131. There was a little bit of cracking at one point, but the way I look at it, the paint will be weakened even if it doesn't crack right away so it's just a matter of keeping an eye on the fenders in general and doing touch ups when needed. The rolling definitely made a difference, but there was still a piece of plastic that joined the metal rear quarter panel to a lower plastic panel below it that rubbed. It's like the panel between the rear wheel and bumper is divided in two, with the top being metal and the bottom being plastic. They couldn't roll that joining piece of plastic so I had it trimmed at another garage and that was the final piece of the puzzle. Everything's cool now - the tires don't rub and I never even think about it. Give Alan a call and get it done, and maybe he can trim that piece of plastic for you too.

Re offsets - I think that would work but it totally changes the look of the car, because you're talking about pulling the wheels in. I like the tires sitting out with a quasi-muscle car look, so it all depends what kind of look you want.
