I own a '97 2.5tl with 98000 Miles, recently during a trip to Chicago, i noticed that my abs light lite up and stayed on after a hard brake to turn a corner. It did go out after i shut the engine off but came on again later on.

It never came on during the drive back home, 5hr drive. Now that i'm driving in the city, it comes on now and then after a few miles are driven. What i did notice was that , three times already, the ABS activating when i was reversing out of the drive way (the grinding noise) for about 2 seconds and i could feel it through the brake pedal.

Could this mean that the ABS system is failing or :

1) Need to replace my brake pads/resurface the rotors
2) Drain/Refill Brake fluid
3) Bring to dealer to get it checked out
4) Does the water pump have to do anything with this?

I've read the manual and it is perfectly fine for me to drive, the ABS system just won't operate.

 

It could be many things, something as simple as a Vehile Speed Sensor or the ABS unit needs to be completely replaced. Best to have it looked at.

 

The ABS activating when you're backing out of the driveway is normal self-checking. It sounds like you might have a sensor that's going bad in a wheel, especially since it doesn't stay on all the time. I'd have it checked, but realize that the light means no ABS, that's all.

(ABS can save your life, please have it fixed)

 

I knew that it wasn't a specific problem, so to the dealer it goes.....wel the Honda dealer that is. The closest Acura dealer is 100Km away from where i live.
