mushy brakes

i have a 96 2.5. i've heard, or at least read, that these cars have soft brakes. and lately i've been noticing the steering wheel shaking a bit when stopping at a medium press (i'm assuming a warp is in progress...but i plan to change these rotors anyways to x-drilled sometime soon). well then, tonite, as i'm driving, i had to come to a semi-harder stop at a stop light. when i took time to realize, i noticed that my foot was pretty close to the floor. so i thought "oh damn, too much", so i let off a bit. but right when i did that, the car started to move, so i pushed back down. it went close to the floor again. i wasn't sure what the deal was, but then the next time i went to stop, it seemed normal again.

i read the post about a leaky line, or bad cylinder. i have yet to plunge into any floors, lines, etc. and this is the first time i've noticed the mashing to the near-floor. freak occurance with a need of new brakes, or cylinder dying (please say it's the first one ). any suggestions?

check your brake fluid level. You also may need to just bleed your brakes.

Yeah, sounds like warped rotors to me in addition to the brake fluid.
