I need to know..

how many of you change your starters. When I 1st got the car, I remember having trouble starting it. i'd put the key in the ignition, turn it, and hear nothing but 1 click. I tried it again but this time i took the key out and insert it again and tried to start it back up and heard nothing but another "click." Tried it AGAIN and it started. from then on, the car has been starting fine for the past 2 years. Just yesterday, it happened again. I give it a few tries and it starts up.

I wonder if its a bad starter or do i need to change spark plugs and wires? I did a major tune up at 60k but told the mechanic not to change the plugs and the wires b/c i wanted to buy them and install it myself. The reason for this is b/c i wanted to buy performance wires...even though i know i wont feel any difference from performance wires lol. Im now at 81k miles and i never did change the spark plugs or wires (i forgot about them and then got lazy to search online). so what could be the problem? any of you had this problem?

My car takes a little longer to start than 'normal'...
It seems to crank the engine like it's a hard winter start sometimes. Does anyone know what I need to do to fix it? Is it the starter coil?

my TL seems to lag on start up if i dont have more than 1/4 of gas. also my car lags on startup when i haven't driven the car in a couple of weeks due to no fuel in the line. does this help at all?

My car has the same issue, kind of embarrassing considering how everything else works perfectly. Its annoying but usually starts the 2nd or 3rd try.

My car does the same thing. I thought my remote start might have messed up my starter. If anyone knows why this is happening let me know. Nothing worse than having a bad female in ur car and then ur car won't start.

The starter contacts are bad, it affected the 91-95 Legends, 95-98 TL's and '96 thru '98 RL's. 99+ RL's have a better starter and this is what Acura dealers will replace it with.

I always keep my fuel above 30L (about 1/2 tank) and almost never let it get down to even 1/4. And I drive every day. Some days it starts perfectly. Just in the morning it's stupid. This I think is one of those wait till it doesn't work problems.

I had mine replaced (98 3.2) at about 90k miles. No problems since then. Acura starter is quite expensive.

I had mine replaced at about 90k miles as well on my '97 3.2TL. The part is pretty expensive. From http://www.acuraautomotiveparts.org website, the part new costs $334.63. If you can stand to part with your car a few days, you can ask the mechanic to take out the starter and rebuild it for you. I notice that you're in Houston. The guy at Japan Car Care told me that he could've simply taken out the starter and rebuilt it for $100 + labor costs for taking it out and putting it back. You may want to try this option. Also, if you can't stand to leave your car for a few days, I'll see if I can't find my old problematic starter to sell for you cheap that you could take to him to have rebuilt. Then you can bring your car in after it's rebuilt and get it swapped out.

Lates,
Slagboy.

http://www.acuraautomotiveparts.org shows the OEM part to be $274.31. Ouch! I notice that you're in Houston. You may want to ring up the guy at Japan Car Care off Veterans Memorial and see if he can't rebuild the starter for you. The guy is good and honest. I believe his name was Phuong Le. Unfortunately, I went the expensive route and purchased a new OEM starter which is a $330+ part on a 3.2TL. When I took my car in to get the starter replaced, he mentioned to me that he could've simply rebuilt the starter for cheaper. You may want to contact him and see if that could be a cheaper alternative.

Lates,
Slagboy.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that I had mine replaced at about 90K miles. I'm up to 129K miles now with no problems on the new starter.

My 96TL starts fine... it takes about two seconds of cranking before firing up. I don't know if the previous owners changed the starter or plugs or anything.

Hey TLBaller,

Yeah, the acuraautomotiveparts.org website shows the new part to be at $274 for a 2.5TL. You may want to check other websites to see if it's any cheaper. If you have a friend with a junkyard, I'd definitely go that route.

As far as the TL meet, it would depend on which Saturday as I work every other Saturday. Not to mention my car is pretty much stock except for clear turn signals

Also, have they started tearing down Town&Country? Last I heard is that they're going to tear it down and build something else on the lot.

Lates,
Slagboy

Thicker seal... or the window isn't rolling into the little slot it has to between the black thing and the seal... I have the same problem, but i think its just my window that is kind of loose and doesn't go in the slot correctly creating a bit of a space... Sometimes it doesn't even go into the slot and lands outside it so when i open the door and close it again... OUCH, sounds like the window is about to break... <<<~~~ another thing i have to fix... anyone else have as many problems with their car as me... ??? lol... They are small but annoying...

Buy your wife a new car... you'll most likely get a reward the night you do... lol... and for about the next week or so... you'll be like :blaze: if you're not already...

Edit: Forgot to say... Thanks Slagboy for the link http://www.acuraautomotiveparts.org It has all the diagrams we need for the first Gen TL... I can't beleive they sell the original face bumper... Mines cracked so i'm going to definatly buy it... I was about to import the JDM body kit from Japan... which i still might... but i still need the OG one... GRACIAS and points to you...

Mine sometimes struggles to start too.

I wonder if it's got something to do with the gas pump rather than the starter. Someone on here metioned that his struggles when he's got less that 1/4 tank of gas. When I lived in the mtns. if I parked with the front of the car uphill it would struggle to start.

Could that be the issue?

My 2.5 struggles at startup too. Only when cold. It acts as if its not getting enough fuel while cranking over and then all of a sudden fires up and runs fine. This has become very anyoing. I don't know where to start troubleshooting. The cap and rotor are fine. I have heard the the TW sensors on the 2.5 vigors would go out causing the engine to think its hot and attempt a "lean" start up. Anyone have any sucess on remedying this hard cold starting??
