How to program a keyfob remote

I picked up a keyfob remote for my '98 TL 2.5 that exactly matches the one I already have. Does anybody here have a working set of instructions how to program it?

Thanks much,

TLW

NOTE: Enterning the programming mode cancels all learned transmitter codes, so none of the previously programmed transmitters will work. You must reprogram all the transmitters once you are in the programming mode.
* Have both transmitter remotes ready before starting the programming process.

Open the driver's door.

Press and hold the driver's door master power door lock switch up in the unlocked position (continue to hold the switch during programming).

Insert the key in the ignition switch and remove it. Repeat this four more times within 10 seconds, then leave the key in the switch. (Insert & remove the key a total of five times in 10 seconds, leaving the key in on the 5th time). Check that the power door locks cycle to confirm that the system is in the programming mode (locks & unlocks by it self).
* This must be completed witin 10 seconds, or the system will exit the programming mode.

Press the "LOCK" or "UNLOCK" button on the remote transmitter. Check that all power door locks (except the driver's door lock) cycle to confirm that the transmitter's code was accepted by the system.

To program a second transmitter remote, press its "LOCK" or "UNLOCK" button within 10 seconds of programming the first transmitter remote (you can program two transmitters per vehicle).

Release the master door lock switch to exit programming mode.

Will these instructions work for remotes of 1997 3.2 TLs? I just bought one. Both remotes the dealer gave me work, but the key chains are broken off of both.

Thanks for the information.

Yeah it should work, at least for all first-gens. I used it to program a remote for my 96.

The number on the back of my remote transmitter rubbed off. Would it be anywhere else on the car. Cause I want to buy a new remote so I can give it to my girlfriend. Only problem is that I have a different looking remote than the one thats pictured in the owners manual ('96 2.5TL) Though it is still Acura original accessory. Can I buy any key fob and program it to my car?

95 - 97 2.5 TL's have a different older remote, i believe it was a dealer option.

'98 2.5 TL's and 95' - '98 3.2 TL's have a standard remote with a different set of instructions.

If you guys need instructions on how to program ANY Acura remote, let me know. I have a PDF file with it all.

Programming OEM Remote 97 TL 3.2

Thanks that worked just fine Ken. Just have to be fast to insert key in ignition before the 10 seconds run out. One satisfied Acura TL keyless remote owner.

I'm not having any luck with the instructions posted by simgarcha. I'm trying to program remotes for a 97 3.2 TL and can't even get the car into programming mode.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Larry

Programming the Transmitter
NOTES:
• This system accepts up to two transmitters.
• Entering the programming mode cancels all learned
transmitter codes, so none of the previously
programmed transmitters will work. You must
reprogram all the transmitters once you’re in the
programming mode.
1. Open the driver’s door.
2. Push up the driver’s door master power door lock to
the unlock position. Hold it there for the rest of this
procedure.
3. Insert the key in the ignition switch, then remove it.
Repeat this four more times within 10 seconds.
(Steps 3 and 4 must be completed within 10
seconds, or the system will exit the programming
mode.)
4. Insert the key in the ignition switch. Make sure the
power door locks cycle to indicate that the system
has entered programming mode.
5. Press the “LOCK” or “UNLOCK” button on the
transmitter. Make sure the power door locks (all
except the driver’s door) cycle to indicate that the
transmitter has been accepted.
6. To program a second transmitter, press its “LOCK”
or “UNLOCK” button within 10 seconds.
7. Release the master power door lock switch to exit
the programming mode.
Ordering a Transmitter
Transmitters can be ordered only by authorized Acura
dealers. Order them from American Honda using
normal parts ordering procedures.
Batteries for the Transmitter
The battery number is CR2016. Each transmitter uses
two batteries.

Thanks again Ken. Turns out my instructions said to leave the key in on the 5th time when it should have been the 6th.

Both remotes are programmed now.

Check out ebay. That's where I got mine for a 1/4 of the dealer price. Got some gently used floor mats the other day also for $50 less than the dealer's price.
