How do you clean the EGR valve?

Hello folks.
Can someone tell me how to clean the freaking EGR valve?
I used the odbCII scanner and its said its the egr.
I had it cleaned by the dealer last year this time.
Now I get this again. I may as well do it myself.
Thanks.

What code was presented? Some codes indicate EGR valve or EGR manifold blockage, others indicate faulty vacuum control solenoid, or other problems.

EGR valve is difficult to clean, but generally does not get blocked. You can test the EGR valve by applying vacuum w/ hand pump or orally to lift the valve pintle w/ engine at idle. Engine will die as EG leans the mixture, if valve is opening. If no change in engine, the valve may be blocked. You can sometimes clean w/ throttle body cleaner and a wire, but access is very difficult.

Most frequent problem w/ EGR system is blockage of the manifold and ports that distribute the EG into the intake manifold.

Working on your car w/o a manual can be expensive, when you replace parts that are working fine.

good luck

In my 2.5 TL, I removed the plate in the picture and cleaned inside, there are five holes. also clean the plate. I used carb cleaner, but there are superior products out there just for this purpose.

sorry for the picture size, I need to work on that....

Wow,
thanks Meazz1 for going through the trouble.
Anyway, do you have to replace the gasket everytime you take the plate off for cleaning?

What year is your 2.5? if its a 96 or 97 it should be covered under the extended emissions warranty till 140k miles. that egr and other shit should get fixed for free. my bro has a 97 and blows 02 sensors all the time and his egr valve replaced like once a year it seems. all for free. look into the warranty thing.
