help with brakes!!!

i attempted to change pads and rotors and discovered that one of my rear calipers is shot. the piston is stuck and the rubber boot is busted (sorry i dont know termiology).

do i need a new caliper? if so, should i attempt my self, mech shop, or acura service?

Do you realize the rear caliper piston retracts by turning CW until it retreats? The dust boot should be a replaceable item. If you're referring to the caliper bolt boots, these are readily available at auto parts store.

If caliper is bad, I would probably look for a used unit from a salvage yard.

good luck

I agree with TexasHonda on everything except for the used caliper. Buy a new one if it truly is ceased. New ones are hardly more than used ones.

thanks guys, i do realize that the rear pistons rotate to compress. i got one done yet the other is stuck. i have done a brake install before about 1.5 years ago, this time around i think the TL's age is showing...

i think i might go ahead and buy a new caliper? how is the process of changing it? i probably have to bleed the brake lines afterwards, eh?

I've never actually replaced a caliper but it's pretty much unbolt then bolt back up and bleed. Just make sure you don't get brake fluid anywhere other than a bucket or pan of some kind. If you do wash it with water right away. Luckily brake fluid is water soluble.
