Help - Brakes
Hey guys,
I’m truly at a loss with this issue.
I’ve replaced many pads in my time however I’m having difficulty with a 1998 TL 3.2 rear brake pads.
I’d like to replace the pads however I can not push the calipers back for the new pads to fit.
I’ve opened the Master Cyl cap and tried to push the calipers in where the fluid flows back to the master cyl. But the calipers wont move.
I’m using clamps that bushes out where it puts pressure on the calipers to push in.
The clamps were made for this type of a job.
So I tried the next best thing is to do the same but since the fluid wont flow back to the master cyl, I opened the bleeder valve and still it wont budge.
What am I doing wrong here... is there something I need to do so the calipers will move at all?
Parking brakes is off. Would I have to disconnect the parking brakes or something?
Is it possible that the parking brake was adjusted so the calipers wont go back any farther?
Brakes seems to work with old pads.... well used to work with old pads and somehow the calipers frozen ?
Well, for some odd reason during my attempts the calipers wont even fit with the old pads so I’m in a bind.
When responding, if you could post that if you have or have not worked on the rear brakes of the First Gen Acura TL. I’d like to know if you’re speaking from experience or in theory.
Thanks,
M

From my experience with first Gen TL's, you simply can't press in
the brake pads. It seems that the trouble you are having is
getting the piston back to the normal position so the pads can
go on.
Notice that the caliper piston has the PLUS + cut
on it, NEVER use clamps this will damage the calipers!
This type of piston requires a tool (Anything that works) to TURN
in the piston CLOCKWISE.
Hope that helps
