a good reason not to get remote start

i've heard that remote starts can mess up your electrical stuff....aftermarket ones that is. so my car had one installed when i got it (few months ago), and it's worked good so far....until recently. it's now cutting off the relay to my radio somehow. if i jiggle the wires down there by the On/Off switch, it turns it on sometimes. so i'm guessing it's a loose wire, but.....not sure why it's happening now.

also my buddy at work said since they tap into the brake line, it can mess with that too. he had one on his wife's car and it somehow totally screwed up her ABS module. so um....if you don't NEED one, i would suggest not getting one. i'm thinking about getting this one uninstalled and going with a stock remote keyless, etc. i'm moving to AZ soon anyways.....when would i need to start it from inside out there?!

Thanks for that reason. I was planning to get it done, but then I heard the same story that my friend told me about the remote start. I guess I won't get it done, after all i just needed an assurance from someone else other than him.

well i'd rather not see someone else waste money on something un-needed. if there wasn't a chance of messing up the electrical, i'd say fine,but....this is just too annoying.

i think it has more to with the installer.

I've had my remote start/alarm installed over 3 years ago and its still working perfectly. Avital makes my remote start/car alarm btw.

i have had mine for 4 yrs and not have a single problem ever.... it depends on the installer and the type of the alarm.. it taps into the brake line to get a signal in case someone tries to drive the car without the key in... i don't see how it will mess up the ABS... it is just a trigger for when it reads (+)...

i'm not sure how either...that's just 'hear-say'. but i know that it's messing up my radio. it hasn't in the last few days tho.....very random. but also..when it happens....very annoying. i still think it's comin out as soon as i can find time to do it...er have it done.

remote start

I have not had any problems with my remote start ..
I beleive that it has to do with the quality of the remote starter as well as the Installer (which is defentely key).
If u go to a reputable shop that has dealt with acura you should not have any problems as well as spend the $$$$$ on a good remote starter ..if the guy tells you he can get it done for 150-200 C$ .. i would be a little worried , I used the Viper starter(one of the best).. this cost me 250.00 just for the starter let alone the actuall install...

Just make sure you use good parts and a good install guy

Had mine in for 2 years now, had another one in for two years before that (changed from just remote start to a two-way alarm w/ remote start). I even had cheapo ones installed on my winter beaters when I used to park my Integra over the winter. They all worked great.

It sounds weird that it would affect all those parts. Hope it gets fixed though! Did the installer fuck it up bad??

i wasn't the one that had it installed initially, so unfort. i'm not sure. i'm not even sure where it was done. but i had a new remote ordered for it and they have to test it, etc. and it had been working fine. just recently it had messed up. it hasn't for a few days, so maybe it's done? unsure.....although i do have it turned 'off' lol. probably for the best.
