Getting rims and tires, couple questions.

Hello, I am new here but have had my TL for a few years now, and I finally saved up some money for some new wheels, and now I have a couple questions...

I drive a silver 1998 2.5 TL.

First of I just wanted to rant about how mad I am that I cannot put the 1st gen tsx wheels on my car cause its a 4 lug. Those wheels are beautiful on our TLs.

So I went out and tried to find the rim that most closely resembles the TSX wheel, for a reasonable price, and this is what I have found.

The Sport Max 786 and the MSR style 113. I will be getting the rims in 17".

They are both around the same price, and somewhat resemble the TSX wheels with the 7 spokes.

Anyways my questions are these:

1. Do you guys know of any other wheels like the TSX ones that will fit my 4 lug TL, or did I already get as close as I can? Also which of these rims would you go with/ have you heard anything about the makers?

2. I couldn't find a reasonable deal on any tire combo with the rims so I am going to buy tires seperately. If I buy any brand tire with the 225 45 17 measurements the rim should fit fine right?

3. If I get the year round tires, I should be able to drive through the winter with them on right?

4.What else do I need to purchase? LUgs, bolts, etc, or can I just go to my neighborhood Discount Tire, who will be doing the install, and have them do everything?

5. Thanks for the help guys.

Sorry having the 4 lug rim wheels suck. Always read posts on this. Unless a conversion really works.

I have 04-05 TSX wheels on my 1st gen and they do look SICK. When I first saw the pics of these rims on our cars I KNEW that I had to have these wheels.

2 - Closest to stock size, and the one that comes stock for TSX wheels is 215/50/17. I was going to buy this size but the place I get my tires from was out of stock so I ended up getting 225/45/17 and it doesn't look as good as with a 50mm sidewall. I got used to it but at first it was driving me nuts. I'd recommend to stick with stock size.

3 - You can but winter tires are much better than all season. I'd rather fork out the extra cash for two sets of tires since summer tires are better than A-S tires in summer and same goes for winter.

4 - Usually rims come with lug nuts. However most stock Honda/Acura wheels require ball-seat instead of the usual cone-seat lug nuts. The ball-seat ones are really hard to find for a reasonable price (at least in Canada). The dealer sells them for $7.50+tax... If you get after-market rims then this is not an issue.

just so u know, the "50" and "45" in tire sizes is the percent of the first number. that being said the 215/50/17 sidewall is actually 50% of 215 or 107.5mm

Oh, I thought it was mm for some reason. Don't know why.

Those will fit, but you'll be riding 4x4 status. Took me 2 weeks to order springs after I put 17's on mine, couldn't stand looking at it.

Well it's not any higher than when using stock wheels. The size of both wheels with tires is practically the same (~0.2% difference if I remember correctly).

1. These are what I always wanted...

2. You can put a 215/45/17 tire on the wheels and be good.

3. Yes if you put all-seasons on you will be good but IMO use your stock wheels in the winter so the new wheels stay mint. In the winter with snow bad things can happen to them.

4. If they carry lugs that will fit then get the lugs through them if not then see if you can find some killer looking lugs to put on there.

5. You're welcome.

I don't get it, how so? If the diameter of the the aftermarket wheel(with tire) is the same as the diameter of the stock wheel (give or take 0-3%) then it won't be noticeable. I didn't notice a difference in wheel gap myself. Am I missing something here?

When you take a look at the stock car with stock tires/wheels, it looks normal.

When you put on a bigger rim and smaller tire, the wheel gap may stay the same but it looks stupid because you're riding on smaller tires - it makes the wheel gap seem bigger.

= 4x4 status and looks ridiculous IMO.

Drop makes a world of difference.

Ahh ok, I get it now. A drop does make a noticeable difference, but I'm not willing to spend a grand for a relatively minor upgrade. You also have to change everything back to normal for winter which is also a hassle. I wish I lived in Cali or something...

No you don't.

Most people just keep the car lowered and just change the wheels out for the winter.

I live in WI and never changed anything back, just put stock wheels back on.

Also the drop cost me roughly $225 for Eibach springs and $100 to install. Well worth the investment IMO.

Then you add accord shocks and your ride will be slammed!

Maybe you guys have a good snow removal service, but here in Montreal it takes roughly a week to get the streets cleaned after a light snow storm. I'm also scared that the ride might be harsher, and considering that the roads are horrible it is the last thing I want. I'm really surprised that springs are that cheap though. Probably would be closer to 300 to get it shipped to Canada but it's still a pretty good deal.

In my city, our side streets don't get plowed only the main roads. My friend drove around with only 4" clearance on his Mazda and was fine.

Get some snow tires on your stockies and you're good to go. I drove a M3 in the snow with snow tires on and it was perfectly fine. A 1.2" difference in ride height isn't going to make that much of a difference. That's what the eibachs were. The ride quality was actually not that bad!
