Extended Emission Waranty questions

My CEL came on last night and I'm bringing it in to the dealership on Monday. My 96 TL has 137K miles, hence i guess i'm somewhat covered under the emissions warranty

I have two questions

What exactly does this warranty cover? and
Why is warranty period so long. I mean 150K or 14yrs is very generous. Did the EPA twist Honda's hand to agree to these terms?

The warranty covers anything that emissions related...so EGR valves, exhaust manifolds, catalytic converters, etc. I had my header crack at 149,650 and it was replaced

The reason for that warranty is that Acura had a tough time bringing the TL to the states back in 1994/1995 as a 95 model. They were forced to put a 150K warranty on emissions for their 95/96 model TL's. It was just one of those things they had to do in order to sell the car here....as far as I know.

It's a great warranty!

I had my EGR valve replaced at the dealership under that extended warranty a couple weeks back for free. They also cleaned my EGR ports and throttle plate. Got a free car wash and multi-point inspection for free too! It's great!

Got my exhaust manifold replaced and O2 sensor replaced twice all for free.
I'm going to take it in for free cap, plugs, plug wires and oil change soon. Gotta say that while the 2.5 TL is not the most fun car I've had or have, this warranty and the car's generally low trouble nature makes it a pleasure to own.

I'm not sure if this is a North America or just a US thing. I would check with Acura of North America....or ask the dealer.

The car is already at the dealsership, i dropped it off last night. I went to my local autozone and the guys there couldn't find the socket to plug in their diagnostic tool. I have the 96 2.5TL and after searching for about 2mins the autozone guy declared that the car was actually manufactured in 95, hence, the socket does not exist. I guess the weather was too cold (about 5) for him to try harder.

The OBD socket that they were looking for is located behind the cigarette/coin tray. I've had to show them this myself when bringing it to autozone before. Just take your tray up and you should see a connector plug down there.

Those are some well qualified employees.....I'm pretty sure they have some book/ comp program to look that up in.

But yeah, it's under the ashtray.
