Does anyone know how to remove the shifter console?

I need to access the lights by the shifter and around the cigarette lighter. I want to see what type of bulbs they use.

1. take the shift plate off. you can use your nails and just pry it off. there's a small bulb attached to the shift plate and remember to take that off.

2. next take the coin tray off and there are two screws down there holding the consol in place.

3. open your arm rest and take out everything. on the bottom, take out the little piece of carpet and there should be two screrws.

4. move both passenger and driver seats as far back as possible and there should be one screw on each side of the consol holding it in.

5. when taking the consol out, remember to unhook the cig lighter from the center dash.

NOTE: i would shift down to neutral while taking the consol out and pull up the e brake so that nothing's in the way.

hope that helps.

hmm i think theres an easier way to find out which bulbs that are being used for the cig and gear plates. i know for a FACT that the same bulb that brightens the cig is the same bulb that is used to brighten the gauges. so if you know how to...maybe take apart the gauges then the bulb might be back there instead of beneath the shift plate.

unx: nice job of doing the instructions! you always do a nice job of explaining process' thanks to him, i was able to change my d4 bulb. but he failed to inform me that the vents are attatched to the plastic dash around the gauge now i broke my vents. its okay though...ill find a junk yard that has them...somewhere..

Thanks alot for the instructions. Sorry about what happened to you TLBaller. Those vents are very delicate.

Is there any way to get to the cigarette lighter bulb without removing the whole center console? I really dont want to do that since I have my switchboard in the center armrest and theres like a million wires I'll have to disconnect.

Yup. I just did it. Good thing I made those wires longer. I just tilted the console up and reached for the bulbs.

BTW, TLBaller, the bulb for the lighter is not the same as the bulbs for the guages. Its about half the size. It will be no problem to replace it with a 5mm LED. I cant wait.
