I've had the same problem for the last year. Its starting to bother me now but I heard it costs a lot to take it to the dealer...so I have the same question as TlBaller.

im curious....does the actual letter light up or is it just the green box around D4? i just noticed that on my car, its only the box around the gear letter that lights up.

alright dudes we explained this before but i'm sure we can do it really quickly again. Here's what you do.

1. tilt steering wheel down. lift up leather flaps at the top end of the steering wheel. unscrew the two screws on either side.
2. unscrew the two screws on top of the speedo thingy.
3. take that piece off, unhook hazard light and clock
4. now it's pretty straight forward. unscrew all the screws that is holding in the speedo thingy.
5. there are three sets of wires connected to the speedo and unhook those.
6. be careful taking the whole speedo compartment out, try not to scratch the plastic.
7. you will see a set of black nobs, those are the light bulbs. twist the one off for the D4 and replace with the new bulb. Acura sells the darn bulbs for 5 bucks but expects you to pay 50 for the labor.
8. i simply replaced my D1 with my D4 and saved myself five bucks.
9. lastly put everything back.

there ya go. any questions, just post away and we'll get back to you.

Same thing happen to me awhile back. But i never had the time to get it fixed. I went to the dealership they said it cost around 60 bucks to that. But i rather do it by myself.

TLover8888, I know a lot of the Hondas are known for only having the box around the letters (the border) light up. I know with my 2000 TL though, the entire box lights up. Another difference between the Accord and the TL

Noam

the little box around the gear indicator dosen't actually light up, there is a little light bulb behind it. i believe there is a hyper-white bulb that will fit in there. i don't know where to get it though.

I think all of our TL's D4 lights burnt out. I know I had to replace mine a while back also. I did the same as one of the others..I replaced the D4 bulb w/ the D1 bulb.

i think many of our D4 indicators have burnt out because it is the light that is most used. i wonder how many of us have trunk leaks?

well guys, i did the bulb change from the "1" gear to the "d4" and now it works fine. save me 5 bucks for the bulb and about 50 bucks for labor. turns out, i broke the vent thats SUPPOSE to be attatched to the housing enclosure! FAWK!! so now, ill have to get a new enclosure. im guessing that will cost about 100-200 bucks?? maybe more?? i was so phuqin pissed.. now im ventless..

neokinetics, do you know "hornda" personally? if so, do you have his cell number? i know he owns a junk yard.. i want to ask if he has that housing enclosure. pm me if you have it. thanks

unx: hey, did you have a hard time screwing back the screws on each side of the steering wheel??? i can't do it.. those are the only 2 screws that aren't in right now.

TLBaller: naw i've never had problems screwing the screws back in. it's a pain in the butt cause the screws keep missing their mark and falling behind the dash. but yeah you shouldn't have any problems getting the screws back in.
