Considering a '97

I'm looking for a car for my daughter. There is '97 3.2 in the area. It's a one owner car in great shape with 99,000 miles. I am seeing it tomorrow. The ad says they have all documentation. I will review all of it, checking on scheduled and major maintenance items (timing belt, etc.). I am struggling with his price however. He is firm on the $5,200 price, which seems like a lot for a 15 year old car and thousands more than Edmunds says for one in "excellent" condition. Is this guy on crack or is a price near $5K a fair price?

I paid 100$ for my 1998 2.5 TL... If I had to fix everything, including changing the engine, tranny and fixing the few rust spots, it would be around 2000$. Given that I had a steal on my buy, 5200$ is a scam.

100k miles 97 3.2 TL, Given that everything is top shape, including interior, no rust, I wouldn't go higher than 3500. And thats with everything top shape. Not a rip on the leather, everything functional A1.

You could do worse with $5k... Much worse.

^^^ I agree.

I bought my 18 yr old daughter a 98 3.2tl with 170k miles on it early last year and she has put over 30k miles on it without anything other than normal maintenance needed. I can't believe how well built this car is. The only thing that has gotten me is the premium fuel and barely 20 MPG.

the mileage is good... but any 15 year old car is never excellent... sorry but it is the truth... what is the 'GOOD' condition price of the car... offer him that...

Not to mention, private party vs. retail vs. trade in. Also, if seller says good it's usually one level lower.

I'm actually in process of getting paid to do all maintenance and modding to make this 1993 accord with 59K original grandma miles on it for my ex boss and friend. He spent 3K...1200 paint...another 2 for suspension and sound system and tints etc. He'll be in for $6K when it's all said and done. Too much IMO, but he didn't do his research.
