A/C issues.....help plz
 

I have a 97 TL 3.2 with 140k, and having issues with the A/C. For some reason the air on the drivers side is much colder than whats coming out of passenger side. Its not dual zone or anything, just the temp control wheel. I took some of the dash apart and stuck my head up under both sides to witness a couple different door/baffles opening and closing as I went from cold to hot. Im scratching my head on this one, any ideas?

I also hooked up a good set of gauges to the high and low ports to check freon. Got the following:

AC off----》105High and 95Low
AC max ---》 115High and 15Low

This was when it was about 95 out this afternoon. Not sure what they are supposed to be though.

It's not anything under the hood since you're getting cold air. The ac is working fine.

It's something to do with the mode motor, the linkage, or trap door. The door is stuck in between ac and heater. Try moving he linkages under the dash by assisting the motor with your hand. If it changes to all hot or all cold then the related motor is the defective.

You can try greasing the gears in the motor if you can access it by opening up the motor.

Sometimes there is enough grease trap in the nooks and carnies of the motor to reuse.

If you buy grease be sure to buy plastic compatible grease/lube. Lube the linkages too.

Thx 4 the input. I agree with the source being a blend door but when I got under both the drivers side and behind the glove box, I witnessed 3 or 4 different parts moving while adjusting the hot/cold knob. They seemed like they were cycling correctly. Any idea where I could find a good diagram showing locations of the blend doors since it is all encased in a big plastic piece of the dash?

Or maybe a good DIY for dash teardown?

I suggest you buy a service manual.

I believe it's the Mode Motor that's defective not Blend door. #4 is mode motor and #5 is blend door. Regardless who's right, I'd suggest you work the linkages to double check.

Even my car is having A/C troubles. When I turn on A/C no cool air comes out and also I hear this really loud rattling noise and when I turn it off it goes away.

Also there are times when the A/C is off but with the fan still blowing regular air and it makes the rattling noise.

^ you have debris stuck inside your blower motor. Try blowing compress air into the intake duct of the blower housing to force it back out.

When was the last time your ac worked... blowing cold air? Is the ac clutch turning when you turn the ac on?

Thanks for the reply. I will try to use my air compressor tomorrow to blow air out of it.

I remember the A/C working about 1.5 months ago. It just recently stopped working. The belt that spins the A/C clutch does spin properly.


I'll see how it goes tomorrow.

With the car running turn on the AC and get a visual confirmation that the AC clutch is not working. Next change the mode to Defroster Mode and look again. In defroster mode it normally works intermittently.

If clutch is still not working check for a blown fuse and/or power at the MG Clutch #12 - 7.5A fuse under the hood. Check for power with the ac on. If no power you have a open in the circuit.

The A/C works now. I don't know why but adjusting the air to suck in actually causes the A/C to work.

Previously I used to not have to manually do it but now it works.

This is a what my problem is. Please look at this thread.

Looks like loose belt or bad harmonic balancer pulley. If the ac belt is loose replace it. If the pulley is bad replace the pulley.

There are a lot of honda 3.2 v6 timing belt diy on youtube. I suggest you check them out.

If your timing belt is due or close now is a good time to do everything at once. As in water pump, thermostat, timing belt, all belts.
