Best place for radar detector?

Howdy folks! I just bought an Escort Passport 8500 radar detector and am trying to figure out the best place to put it on the windshield.

I currently have it located on the right side of the rearview mirror, just at the lower edge of the tint line.

Any suggestions as to a better place? Once I find the ideal location, I plan to direct-wire it in to the fuse box...

that sounds good, but I had mine dead center on the lower part of the windshield because I didnt want the wire hanging down.

Dont put it on the windshield. I put mine in the very left corner of the dash, and hooked it through my ignition so its always on. I boughta new Bel, and its awesome. I'll get a close up pic of where I mounted it and show you. I think on the window looks stupid!

the rule of thumb is, if u mount it high on the windshield, u can catch radar better, if u mount it low near the dash, then u can catch laser signal better..

Similar situation, I am gearing up to spend some cash on radar/laser detection/jamming (to the extent permitted by law) I was planning on putting a radar detector to the right of the rear view, and on the rear windshield, both wired in to the dome light circuit.

If money was not a problem, what would the best defense against radar/lidar assault?

P.S. Smart-ass don't-speed replies are bullshit and will be ignored

Note....THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A RADAR JAMMER.....THAT IS A TOTAL SCAM! They actually did a "Mythbusters" show on that subject...took every radar/lazer jammer on the market that made claims that they could either completely jam the signal/confuse the signal/change the readout to 55/ect and proved POSITIVE that those ALL are a TOTAL scam and dont work to jam anything.

That being said....I recently purchased an Escort 8500 X50 (Blue) and it had major Kudos from several sources....check their web site out. I have found that it is accurate most ALL the time with little falsies! As all of em...you do get em from time to time....but this minimizes it to almost nothing! I have even been looking at their G timers also....jury still out on that one though.

And trust me...wouldnt give you a smart ass reply like dont speed.....we all do it! Case in point.....ticket on desk now 76/55 (thats what made me get the detector)!

For the folks that put it in the lower left hand corner of the dash..do you still stick it to the windshield or do you just rest it on the dash? Doesn't the detector angle out laterally?

Also, does the 180 degree detector still work in that position or does the seat obstruct its sensor...

i have an older escort solo and the key is to mount it in the middle of your windsheild. the reason being, if it is too low on your dash, your shoulders and the front seats block the 360 degree protection. if it is too low, the radar only sees between your seats, which is nothing. the higher the better but not too high because any type of tinting can deflect the signals

I wish I had a formal education in RF/laser physics, but as I do not, I am left only to speculate. My present understanding is that lidar uses the Doppler affect to measure speed. light waves bouncing off your car come back compressed to a shorter wavelength if you are moving towards the gun, and the degree of compression indicates your speed. If you were to have your own emitters at several close, but deviated wavelengths then the sensor of the radar gun would mix its signal in with the rest, and would read multiple speeds at the same time, similar to when they don't actually have a lock on you, and can't tell who they're tagging. ...Or at least I hope that's how it works... As for myth busters, its a cool show, but it is a TV show owned and operated by a network that doesn't want to offend the FCC. Remember, the FCC is in charge of policing radar jamming as well as TV stations. Plus, whatever the solution is, it wouldn't be politically correct to broadcast it to the masses. Could you imagine, really, a TV show telling people how to avoid tickets any way other than the cliche? I can't.

I fear it is nearly a moot point to jam though, as I have already seen what looks like photographic speed measuring devices on some of our highways. cameras aimed at the traffic and things that look like some sort of a sensor to time when you pass a mark on the road. They have these about a mile apart on a stretch of road that is really quite a safe place to speed (unless its raining). I haven't heard of it happening yet, but its just a matter of time until they use these cameras to issue speeding tickets. What really pisses me off is that they were paid for by tax money under the guise of being able to broadcast traffic jams in real time. THOSE FSCKERS!!!!! I think legislation needs to be passed to raise the limits, and make them car specific (an SUV should not be allowed to go as fast as a sports car, taking into account weight, center of gravity, turning radius, braking distance).

your escort looks nice, but I can think of nicer *escorts* for that kind of cizash I'm'a be on ebay scoping out a good deal on a couple. My last ticket was 76 in a 25, not res, not school, not construction, just a long lakeside winding road to break in the suspension. The pigs got over a thousand bucks out of me, so I'm prepared to invest twice that in keeping them from ever succeeding again.
