Bar's Leak Stop for Radiator

So I know I really messed up when I dumped a bottle of Bar's stop leak in my radiator, so please don't post to say how stupid I am, trust me I know. When I first bought my TL there was a pinhole in the radiator so I dumped a bottle of brown Bars Leak goop into it and it didn't fix it. I don't know what I was thinking but I put another bottle in, that was like a silver color. It looked like liquid metal. After I realized that I probably just totalled my car, I did a radiator flush. Than I did another one a month later. Now after three very thorough flushes, there is still little silver metalic peices floating around in my coolant. How bad do you think it is that all that crap is in my cooling system. Do you think I should take it in for a power flush to get the rest out?

have you replaced the radiator yet??? i think once you put that stuff it in, it really adheres itself inside your system and can be dislodged at any time... if you haven't changed your radiator yet, you should since that pinhole can cause you to develop a BHG over time... and i bet since most of that additive is stuck in the radiator, once you replace it, it will solve your worries...

hope you are using Honda Coolant...

First of all, I'm not using Honda coolant. I'm usually so good about the Honda only fluids (AT, OIL and Power steering), I can't beleive I didn't think to get Honda coolant! I will do that immedialty. And yes, I got another Radiator but somehow alot of the silver crap is still in there even after getting a new radiator and several flushes. How much does a jug of Honda coolant run at the stealership?

i just bought a gallon last weekend to change out my coolant and it was $16.00 at the Honda dealership... i think Acura charges almost $20 for the same thing... Type II coolant should be a nice blue color...

how are you doing your flushes??? are you releasing your stockcock at the bottom of the radiator and running the engine while it is draining and you are filling it with water??? it may just take a while to work itself out of the inside of your block, especially if it is sitting on your water pump...

My dealer charges $15 for a gallon. They just have Honda Type 2 at the Acura dealer. I usually just do a drain and fill. I have never ran the vehicle with water in it. So is this the correct, most thorough procedure. 1). Drain 2). Run the car 3). Keep adding water and let it run for a little, while water flushes it out. Kamlung, if you could just describe a short DIY, I would really appreciate it. I'll probably do it this weekend if you can post a DIY today. Thanks - Nick

I don't think the silver stop-leak flakes will hurt anything in small quantities.

I use Walmart anti-freeze w/ distilled water. It works for me. I'm sure Honda antifreeze is good product, but better than Walmart!

good luck

I did like 10 drain and fills on my radiator. I just kept draining it and filling it with water untill it was coming out just as clean. I'm glad I did it myself since, no shop would have done it as thoroughly as I did. I drove in between some of the flushes also to make sure it got through my whole system. Now my whole cooling system has nice blue Honda coolant running through it without any bars leak shit floating around in it. Thanks

man, i dont mean to contradict here, but i use 2.99 antifreeze from the gas station. done it for 11 years of engine assemblies to hundreds of engines too. no problems

well you learned from the experiance.

When your car overheats. shut it down, and find the leak. You find the leak, replace the part. Its going to cost you a 100 bucks also. if you try to 6.99 fix it, you will cost yourself way more money.

Bars leak is for school bus driver whores who drive 87 escorts that run on 3 cylinders dude. That shit is not for a 35,000$ (when new in 98) luxury cars from japan. Just look at whatever hose has let go and is leaking steam, or wherever your radiator is leaking steam from and replace that part. its cheap as shit. If your replacing some shit thats going to cause your radiator to leak all of the friggin coolant out, drain that shit and put a new 8.99 thermostat into it. I dont understand why people dont do routine maint items like a 9 dollar thermostat when they could just look down and do it. I understand the concept of dont fix it unless its broken, but that theory is for your house, not your daily transportation.

buy a 80 dollar radiator
buy a 10 dollar thermostat
buy a jug of prestone

fixed

bars leak and all that mr fix it shit is like heroin man. As soon as you shoot your car up with that shit, your shit literally turns into a junk-e. Youll be going back every day for some new mr fix it shit for another problem thats arrived at your door as a result of the previous mr fixing. Shut it down, park it and fix it right. Unless its a school bus driver whore kinda first gen tl, if thats the case, then beat the fuck out of it.

hahahahahahahaha

dude

-pull the radiator cap off
-take the drain plug out
-jam a water hose in the radiator
-open that water hose nob shit at yo house all the way
-water sprays through radiator flushing it out the bottom.

you dont need to do all that jazz.

ive even done that shit while the fuckin car was runnin too. no probs haha

if you are concerned with whats inside the engine like bars leak, just take the upper hose off and jam the garden hose into that shit and spray it through the engine till it comes chuggin out the radiator top outlet. or remove the 19mm freeze out plug on the front of the block.

Jesus, I leave for a couple days and I come back to Colt45 telling me I'm a school bus driver. Haha. I replaced the radiator and flushed it with the hose. Everything is good now. Like I said in my first post, I knew it was a bad idea using the school bus driver method. Everything is good now.
