Bad Taillights

this happen to anyone? YOU change a lightbulb to find that it wasn't the light bulb that wasn't working? My new taillights have that problem right now. the brake light won't engage when i'm braking. The parking/nite lights come on fine as every other light. I've tried three bulbs and none worked. Connections look solid plugged in, no loose/fryed wire visible under the plastic guard. Any ideas?

did you check your fuses? Are the new bulbs the correct kind with double filaments?

Had the same problem once. Called the Acura folks and they said that the rear bulbs have been a pretty common problem with folks and that the CL bulbs actually fit better.

yes, the bulbs are the correct w/double filaments. I'll try buy CL bulbs, could just be a connection in the light socket itself. Thanks for the suggestions

it sounds like you have a short or it could just be a damaged bulb your overlooking thats causing you trouble. It's easy to overlook a messed up bulb. My accord kept on blowing fuses because i moved one bulb that was damaged. do any of your brake lights work? one damaged bulb will cause all of them to fail.

ok i bypassed the short so that the light works (but I still get a bad brakelighte indicator on my instrument panel). I gotta take it to the dealer (sigh) to get the entire rear harness replaced. I wonder how much that is going to set me back.

My car is in the body shop and the mech said it was probably a bad ground wire and he'll look at it and replace it. You might want to just take it to a mechanic and find out which wire is bad and have it replaced.

I really think it may be a bad ground. I had a very similar problem with my accord years ago, the Parking lights in the rear would work fine but when I stepped on the brakes the lights would go out and then when I take my foot off the brake the parking lights would come on. Then i realized that my ground was bad. My accord had 4 bulbs in the rear. So one section of my right side wasnt working, so I repaired the ground wire, the the other section went immediately after, so I repaired that, then the left side went and I said screw it and replaced all the ground wires. It was pretty funny when I look at it now, but back then in that predicument it was quite annoying.

Plus you have to remember alot of our TLs for some reason take on water in the rear especially our tails, so this causes premature corrosion of our wires on our lights. My Accord had the same problem.

Good Luck!
