I was headed to the shore on Saturday down the AC Expressway. While going about 75mph, I started loosing power, my battery light came on, the radio shut off and it started hesitating. I pulled off at the next exit, barely made it into a parking lot, popped the hood, and found that the alternator belt had completley shreaded itself. I had it towed to the nearest Acura dealer where they rented me a car until they could look at it.

I just got off the phone with the dealership. They quoted me $691 for the Alternator Belt & Crankshaft Pulley replacement. I told them to go ahead with it, since this dealership is 100 miles from my house. Otherwise, I could easily do the job myself, but to tow it back to my house would cost a small fortune.

I really hope I'm not getting hosed.

691? Isn't the entire placement of the timing belt with alternator belt and other belts with water pump around 800 dealership?

The dealer records I have for this car show that the previous owner paid $1400 for the timing belt/water pump & drive belts at the dealer a year ago.

I was looking at my manual though. Quite a bit of labor is involved in removing the pulley.
