Acura vs. Aftermarket

What is the general feeling on purchasing Acura vs. OEM parts... like belts and a water pump?

Is it worth it for the extra money?

I might have had the wrong term... I meant aftermarket parts compared to Acura parts... Does it matter... Acura parts come with a 1 yr/ 12,000 mile warranty compared to none with the aftermarket.

Is it worth it to pay more for the acura parts or is it safe to go with the aftermarket ones

i would go for acura parts when changing out belts and stuff. they're actually parts made for hondas but thats a diff story. anyway, since the manufacter used these parts, im sure they are made specifically for our car. the belts aren't going to say "honda" or whatever on them...i dont think? mines say "mitsuboshi" or some crap.

just a fyi: acura parts is the same as O.E.M. oem = orginal equipment manufactory. so yeah..same thing

I agree with your first paragraph.

Don't agree with the second. Really, there are three categories:

Dealer, Factory, or Honda/Acura
OEM = Original Equipment Manufacturer = Made by a company that makes parts for, say Honda. It could be a cheaper line, or very similar. But, it is not a "Honda" Part.

Aftermarket = A company that make parts that are supposed to "fit" just like, or similar to the original parts.

I think genuine Acura parts are worth the extra money. I guess the manufacturers that supply these parts have to confirm to the quality standards set by Honda/Acura for these parts.

I agree here, especially electrical. Many times, I can get parts from the dealer for the same, and often less than aftermarket just by asking for a discount.

Or sometimes they give away parts for free if they're cheap stuff. My dealer did my highmount brake light at no charge for anything while they were turning my rear rotors. And they do tend to give discounts if it's a big repair (they make their money on labour anyway).
