ABS light intermittently "ON"

Hi all,
When i start my car, the ABS light sometimes remains ON after the vibrating sound for 45 sec. This happens occasionally and I'm worried ,if its something i shd see a dealer. Have someone experienced the same problem before ? Or has some got a piece of advice for me ? I would really appreciate it.

Thanks for your time,
Amit

your ABS module may be malfunctioning. i would call the dealer and ask them what they suggest. most will be up front with you. call more than one if you can if you have that many in your area. but having it on for any period of time is less than good.

I bet the modulator is low on fluid and running the whole time.
Top off fluid and it will stop for a day or so till it leaks out again.
Will probally have to replace the accumulator and modulator.
It's cost a lot, around $1400.

have the same problem. Gets worse eventually. I top off fluid when I can, but when driving on hwy in excess of 50 miles it comes on. Try to find out what u need - accumulator, modulator, or both and then call junkyard to see if you can get part. Common problem in mid 90's honda/acuras.

Also try to bleed the system. Sometimes whe fluid is low air gets sucked in. NOt sure whteher your mechanically inclined or not its pretty simple. Buy some 3/8 " clear tubing from a hardware store. Next to the abs unit, you wills se a very small balck plastic cap - remove it. Connect the hose to this and put the other end in good brake fluid. Slowly unscrew the bolt directly under the opening and fluid will come out. Close the bolt when there are no more air bubbles and u begin to see a clear stream. Then top off the fluid in the reservoir, by taking off the big black plastic cap and plastic insert and pouring in fluid. Try to use a funnel to minimize spills.

Hope this is right. Found this on a coupla other forums. Tried it, kinda helped. Let us know how it goes.

what about taking out abs all together to save weight? mine is starting to do the same problem and i havent found a local junkyard with TLs to get parts. I would love the wood grain door inserts and console.

i think weird stuff happens when you do that. i had a 93 lumina with a bad ABS module. so whenever i hit the breaks, even tapped them, they would grab the rotors very hard. in snow or slippery conditions, they would lock up nearly every time, even with light pressure. unless you change some other stuff i think there are issues. but then again, i'm not sure on how to swap OUT ABS.

well I know when you have the e-brake handle like 2 clicks and drive the car a certain distance the light comes on and abs is deactivated. seems to brake and handle fine when its off. i wonder how much that whole thing weighs?

mine turns on about 5-10 minutes after i start the car and stays on the whole time. called one dealer and he said that its somethin with the wiring that just makes the light turn on and should affect the actual breaks, but we jus had snow and those bitches lock up on me like nothing. def getting a second opinion.

i would. the dealer said my left seal was leaking.....turns out it was oil from something else...and they wanted to charge me to change it, etc. they don't know everything. get an opinion of a local shop. have a diagnostic place teek a peek at it.

i've got one sitting in my room right now. got it off an integra, should fit in our tls. sucker weighs about20-30 punds no more. This includes accumulator, modulator, and the frame like thing that this stuff is bolted to. Ill weigh it tomorrow and check. IMO, definetely NOT worth taking out. Driving on snow or ice in traffic without ABS is nerve racking.
