96 2.5TL problems
I am the orginal owner and the car has been trouble free since new. In the last few months, things are starting to go.
Has anyone experienced any of the following? If so, are there any quick resolutions?
1) Power locks are freaking out. On warmer days (not many of those this time of year in New England!), the power locks continously "re-lock" after locking the car.
2) Shifter gets stuck in Park. Occassionally, the shifter sticks in Park. There doesn't seem to be any pattern to it. When it is stuck, you can stick a key in the hole next to the shifter and operate the car. Sometimes, you can wiggle it and get it to work properly.
3) The passenger side cooling fan (I don't know if this is for engine or A/C cooling) is squealing like a stuck pig until it warms up a little.
Thanks folks. Nice forum.

I have number 3 Going on. it annoys me so much but im too lazy to fix it...... but it goes away after the car warms up completely. but if u drive away to early it whines and the steering wheel is realy hard to turn until it does warm up.
Number 1 only happens to me when its really cold the alarm sometimes doesnt open the door just disarms the alarm so then i need to use a key...

I have a 97 3.2. I have a door UNLOCK problem, solonoid just buzzes while unlocking the doors. I have an aftermarket solonoid, just haven't had a chance to install it yet, got too cold too quick up here in Toronto!!

I recall seeing the power lock problem and the shifter problem noted as a common problem on one of the used car "review" websites. I thought that others may have seen these.
Regarding the squeeling fan. I am guessing the fan is the radiator fan (the A/C - Tranny fan appears to be on the driver side). I sprayed some WD40 under the fan hoping to lubricate the bearing a little. It did quiet it, but with the noise down, you can tell that the bearing is shot. I have located a used fan that I hope to pick up today.
I suspect there is something else making a noise. Similar to Titanxboss, I noticed that the noise is reduced when you turn the steering wheel. I can't see how the cooling fan would be affected by steering wheel movement. Any thoughts? I wonder if the bearing is also going in the power steering pump.

I have the problem with #2, it's usually the sensor in the brake pedal does not recognize the pressure to release the shift lock (which is a safety feature). It was solved by replacing the master cylinder.

I had the squealing fan, fortunately I got in just under the wire to have it fixed on my 100K extended warranty. Didn't have any of the other problems, but I think my master cylinder is starting to go - car creeps forward at stoplights, but only when it's hot outside.
I just got a 99 TL and will be getting rid of my '96 soon. Was wondering if I was making a mistake as the '96 quality has been so good - 137K and still going strong...but maybe it's about time to let 'er go.

Mine did the same thing, and it turn out to be the door lock actuator which apparently was prone to malfunctions. I think your dealer might even have the ability to fix/replace it for free due to it's known defect (not an official recall, but it is worth looking into).
