60K maintenance rip-off
i was reading the car manual about the 60K scheduled maintenance...what a ****ing rip-off!!!! about half of the list is inspect this, inspect that...NOT replace this, replace that. most of the replacing is for stuff i can do...for the money it'll cost me, it just isnt worth it.

depends on how much the dealer's gonna charge me. i'm sure i can do most of the stuff myself, but i guess if the price is too high i'll take it to a mechanic's place by where i live. they specialize in acuras and are a lot cheaper than the dealership.

What do you think should be done at 60K because I'll try to do some myself also. I'm guessing belts, spark plugs, spark wires, air filter, gas filter, timing belt, water pump, idle adjustment, replace all fluids... What else? Maybe I'll have the dealer do the timing belt and the water pump only. I think I might be able to handle the rest. My brother is a Porsche mechanic but he doesnt like to work on anything thats not German so I doubt he'll help me. I know a few decent mechanics though. I want to keep my idle staying nice and smooth. MY friend has a Lexus with a rough idle and no mechanics can fix it. I dont want my car to get to that point.

yeah things like air filter and spark plugs we can all do ourselves. i'm not sure what else needs to be done though. the idle adjustment thing seems like it needs a mechanic to actually work on it. i'm sure we can get the parts cheaper on line and then just take it to the dealership and have them install it. i kinda want to put in a new fuel pump to see if that wouuld fix the start up problem.

try going to an ASE certified mechanic. they have the same qualifications. their work will be recognized by acura, should warranty service be required. be sure to check with the mechanic beforehand.......aloha......
