2.5TL premium keyless?

Hello,

I have a 96 TL 2.5 Prem and it does not have a keyless entry remote. From researching and asking owner i bought it from it never had one.

It does have the alarm that will activate when locked from outside drivers door.

Keyless entry is just one of those things i really like to have. I dont need remote start or anything fancy. Just a button to lock and activate factory alarm.

Can shops install a keyless entry remote that will also activate and arm the Factory alarm when locked?

I would really just like to still use factory alarm and not have to use an aftermarket one.

u could just buy the key fob and do it your self their is a way to program the key fob to your factory alarm or you could go to your nearest acura dealer and buy the key fob their and they will program it for you for free.

Yes, thats what i would like to do. I checked online and there are some keyless remotes available for sale.

I checked Ikeyless.com and they have a new aftermarket remote that they SAY will work with my 96 2.5

https://www.ikeyless.com/vehicles/Ac.../1996/1000349/

But I found a thread that said only the 1st gen 3.2L had keyless available and only in 98-up 2.5TL

The 96-98 2.5TLs didnt come with keyless so there is no way to program a remote.

Is this true or can I just buy an aftermarket remote and program it?

Thanks

Just get a basic remote start installed and that will do the trick. It is what I did, cause my factory remote died. Now I have a better range and can start her up in the winter. win win.

So did your 96 2.5TL come with remote keyless entry to begin with? I read that only 98-up 2.5's came with remote keyless?

well according to what i just looked up 95-97 tl came with a special remote which was programed by kenwood don't have to much info on that cause i own a 3.2 but my suggestion would be to go to the acura dealer and ask them if their are any key fobs available for the 2.5 premium and if they say yes then you could either buy it their and they will program it for you or try and find the key fob somewhere and just make sure its the same part number .

Ok guys I will give them a call. Probably if they do have it its gonna cost a pretty penny.
But maybe I can get the part number from them like you suggested and get a remote on Ebay.

The 2.5 TL for '96 and '97 came with a Kenwood system that is NOT programmable. The unit is paired from the factory to the remotes.

The 3.2 TL and '98 2.5 TL have a different setup that IS programmable.

I recommend an aftermarket setup myself.

Ok, but will an aftermarket keyless entry system that just locks the door also activate the alarm?

Because I really dont want to change the alarm. And i found some aftermarket keyless entry systems that work as long as you have power locks.

If the doors are all locked doesnt the alarm come on anyways?

Thanks

I'm not sure, I've never looked at the 2.5 TL's system. An alarm shop would be able to tell you.

Yes, it would activate the factory alarm. I have installed an aftermarket alarm/keyless entry combo myself and when pressed locked, it armed the factory alarm as well as the aftermarket system.

Ok thanks sounds good! I found a local shop here that will do keyless entry for me for about $140+tax.

I usually do all my own car maintenance but wiring is something i always have someone else do, lol. I dont have the patience

Remote start can't be much more. I'd bet you could find remote start for the same price.

acura tl 2.5 security sistem

just get an aftermarket keyless entry and install it by yourself, it's very easy to do. It will activate the factory alarm and disarm for about $40.00 bucks. but using the key to lock the door will activate the alarm. I got mine working with aftermarket remote start also activates both alarms at the same time without using factory fob control.
