2.5 Jerks when I get on it.

Hi, when i floor the car, the trans jerks for a sec while it shifts. How can I get the car to shift as smoothly as possible, especially under hard accel. Thanks.

if the car has never had a tranny change then DONT DONT DONT do that.

the varnish that collects around the valves in your tranny over time with get washed into the valves and clog them if you put all new fluid in. my advice is to drain a little and put additive + some new tranny fluid in

Don't do a flush on our trannies. To be honest, just pouring in some additive without doing a drain and fill will help it a bit.

Another reason for the jerk (possibly) is a bad transmission mount.

that sounds expensive to fix. is it? and if it's not super complicated to replace im sure i can do it myself.

I'd check out the other possibilities before replacing a tranny mount, since the mount would cost much more. If it's just slightly cracked, a quick weld will fix it.

i talked to the previous owner and he claimed that honda autos are different than other autos, in that they are made to shift a little rougher and be a little like a manual while shifting and that they dont even have a trans filter unlike other makes. is there any truth to this or should the car be shifting smoothly? i cant imagine why anyone would make a luxury car and have the trans not shift as smooth as butter.

Partly true.

Honda automatics do not use planetary gears. Instead they use gears very similar to those on a manual transmission and add a torque converter to it. Honda went this route because they didnt want to pay for someone elses design, it was all done in house.

Your 2.5 DOES have a transmission filter that can/should be replaced. However, unlike the garden variety Honda product, you can service the filter on the car without removing the transmission.

In my experience, the first sign of a dirty screen is on the 1-2 shift.
