Hello all. I have a 92 Vigor that I acquired very cheap. It broke a timing belt and my mechanic said all it needed is a new head and of course the timing belt and it would be back running again.

I'm nervous of this and I don't want to pour the money into that if I'm going to find out that the pistons are all jacked up too. Like I said, I bought the car cheap and I want to keep it this way due to only 1 income coming into the household now. But, we are in need of a car in a bad way now!

Do you think it would be safe enough to replace these parts and let it be? Is there an easy enough engine swap that can be done in the Vigor? I know some of you may not be too familiar with the Vig, but I know you are with that 5 cylinder. I'm just wondering if a V6 would go into it somewhat easily.

Any ideas and help would be greatly appreciated!

It is likely only the valves are damaged, but there are only two ways to know for certain. First is to remove the head and inspect and second is use of a borescope (some shops have them) to look at the pistons and make sure they are not damaged.

I had a borescope inspection performed on my 2.5TL after a long, frustrating series of events. They found no damage and head was repaired. Car is still running fine. Search my posts for details of this grisly incident.
