1996 2.5 TL Transmission Problem
1996 2.5 TL Transmission Problem
Hi all, newbie here.
I've always felt that the shifts on my car were sloppy, but I was told that "that's just the way they are". Over the last week, my 2-3 shift is sloppy, but only when the car is warm. Also, after a highway trip, I smell burned tranny fluid. There are no leaks that I can see, and I added a bottle of Lucas tranny fix, but it's not helping. I think my tranny is on it's last legs...Any ideas?
P.S. - I have 192000 Kms on it.

You know, at 192k you should expect an eight year old transmission to have a little bit of difficulty keeping the shift smooth and right on target. I know on my 1996 120k TL my 3rd 4th shift are a little bit difficultly specially when going up a hill because the grade logic control gets confused at to what gear i really want to stay in. I bet a tranny flush will help a little, but i mean its amazing that the cars even go this far!

Take it to the dealer. Our 99 TL Check Engine light was on this week, dealer found that the shift cylenoid was bad. Acura is not letting them fix the cyl, but must replace the transmission, per the dealer. Acura is having them send the transmission in because they are trying to find out what is going on.
I just found this out today. Also, today, coincidently, I got something from a lawyer group looking to make a class action suit dealing with transmission issues with TL's 1999-200? . They seemed a bit oddly coincidental. Anyway, Acura is taking care of it so I'm not interested in the class action. But still....strange.
