Cool Rim Selection! Need opinions!

Lets do this!

for my '04 RL: Photo Goodness below.
The idea is to NOT Ghettoize the flagship she is but add class and some sportyness to make it fit into 2013 a bit more.

These just set the car off. Esp. when I Tint down the windows some and a fresh paint job (As long as I can get them in 18" in my bolt pattern):

The other choices plucked from Tirerack and DiscountDirect and your Humble Opinions here:

Thanks in Advance! (TIA)

If can't click them right click to open in new tab. My account is too young to post from this site server. In the meantime. I'll get a better link to them here in a bit.

Okay Good.

Are you planning to lower the car? A lot of those rims look good on paper/website/carfigurator.....however once you see them in person, you realize either they're too small or you don't like the way they actually look (TireRack has the closest diagram to a real setup IMO). All the RL's on DiscountTires carfigurator are shown to be lowered. It's all up to you though. I would stay around 18" if possible.....16 is too small imo.

I like the MODA's, I've put a couple on lowered RL's.....I'm not sure how it would look stock. Might be a little too much rubber for my taste if you use the stock tire size for the 18" wheels, but again...its all up to you

Modas are nice and at Tirerack relatively cheaper than many and more in my price range. Yes I wanna keep the cost down on wheel tire combo, don't like lots of rubber either and do want to drop the car on some aftermarket springs and shocks. Did it to a '88 BMW 635csi with 17"deep dish Mesh Rims, even then i wanted more rim coverage in the wheel wells. Pro you have dark rims on your silver RL, I'm trying to keep some alum, silver or chrome elements in there so it doesn't over power the the car and become a bit of a death sled look. I also need to save fundage on this project for other goodies esp. a respray. Then the car will be respectably clean looking and sit well within its class. I do like the added Lip on rims that or the concave look a lot of Beemers seem to sport these days. This body style has that shape like others in its class and era that is only really set off IMHO by many spoke rims and larger diameters even 19s. But without rolling fenders, as I have read, I will stick with 18's and save my back on the FL potholes in my city for a bit more comfort vs. looking slammed on pizza slabs like the "donks" have done to this area of the country. Ha.

Excellent! Ghettoizing is bad mmkay?

Actually, I have both silver and dark in my rim style. I currently have the silver ones installed, 18 inch but unfotunatly only 7.5. I was also looking for a deep(er) dish style, however tirerack didn't seem to have any that fit my vehicle. I plan on lowering my car as well, however atm im doing some interior mods etc. I agree that many spokes is more the way to go with this car. And yes, saving money is always a plus. Did you ever think of installing some 07 or 08 TL wheels? Or do you not like them.....

And...

Out of the ones you listed, which one are you leaning towards the most?

The TL rims are alright a bit stock looking. I am Leaning towards the first choice even though I will drop the car eventually to get the presented look in that shot. However, I still like some lip on the rims that or concave.

I tell you the truth, none of the wheels you sent are good looking, maybe thats just my taste. You might want to look into XXR wheels at nextlevelmotoring.c0m or Rota wheel. Thats just my opinion, good luck.

After agreeing with Pro on his comment that the "more spoke style" rims set off the class of this body design i bit the bullet and went a little higher on my price point, with FK Ethos 18 x 7.5" LXM rims, machined face with a chrome lip, wrapped in 235-40-18 tires. As the dish look and pseudo "alpina fan like rims" were what I was ideally looking to do. These should keep the element of class and add some modernization to the car. Here's what they look like:

Now to get the alignment done before these babies hit the road in 7+ days. I'll post pics after i receive and install. The 40mm offset may be a slight issue and may have to pull the front fenders, not sure about rolling rear yet. (easily done with a wooden bat, floor jack and a heat gun). They may just make it. Thanks for all opinions.

Installed, now she needs a heavy bath, some cosmetic body work, touch ups, compounding, wax and a drop. All in due time. The front fenders need .5 " pull once the drop happens due to offset, but not too too bad.

Cheers!

I am a little irritated the photo from Discount Tire Direct shows more of a chrome lip, but I imagine that is on much wider wheels 8, 8.5, and 9. I wanted to stay conservative and not risk rub with using spacers and even more offset issues. For the free shipping and free mounting and balancing and price i paid on the tires, I can't complain. The savings are better spent on getting the rest of the necessary work done.

Yea I was after the lip as well. I have 18X8 so the lip is a little larger, but I suppose the offset makes a big difference.
