Newbie here...00 RL SRS and check eng. light-how to get/reset codes?
Hey guys, first post!
How can I pull codes and reset these lights? I have an OBD 1 car, its a matter of shorting two pins out and counting flashes, etc.
How do I do it with this one? Where the heck is the port anyway? I really dont know much about this car but I dont want to fork out $100+ for something I may only use once or twice...
Thanks.

I went the only Autozone I know of in this area earlier today, long story short they just didnt want to do it.
Wound up at a Kragen who wanted to sell me the scanner but between work being slow and working on two other project cars things are a little tight.

I found this post on another forum. It gives you instructions on how to reset the SRS light, but won't tell you why it's on.
Notice that it says to use a SCS service connector, but a jumper wire should suffice. And the MES connector that needs to be jumped is a Yellow Plug that is under the dash cover. It just hangs when u remove the dash cover.
To erase the DTC(s) from the SRS unit, use a Honda PGM Tester (see the Honda PGM tester SRS vehicle system Supplement or the following procedure.
1. Make sure the ignition switch is OFF.
2. Connect the SCS service connector to the MES connector (2P). Do not use a jumper wire.
3. Turn the ignition switch ON (II)
4. The SRS indicator light comes on for about 6 seconds and goes off. Remove the SCS service connector from the MES connector (2P) within 4 seconds after the SRS indicator light went off.
5. The SRS indicator light comes on again. Reconnect the SCS service connector to the MES connector (2P) within 4 seconds after the SRS indicator light comes on.
6. The SRS indicator light goes off. Remove the SCS service connector from the MES connector (2P) within 4 seconds.
7. The SRS indicator light indicates that the memory is erased by blinking two times.
8. Turn the ignition switch OFF, and wait for 10-seconds.
From what I've heard, the 1st generation RL's has an issue with the front passenger seat belt causing the SRS light to come on. I'm told Acura has a lifetime warranty on seat belts, so you may be able to have the dealer check this out for free.
Hope that helps.

SRS 1996 RL Owner, not Expert, 103,500 Mi.
I can't seem to get a straight story from my mechanic. SRS & TCS lights stay on. He cannot get any code, which he says means that the control unit has to be replaced. Then he says that the "whole system has to be flushed," and the total repair will run about four hours. Please tell me what part or parts are essential to this repair, and whether it is OK to install used but original parts. I'm in the Boston area, so local advice would be helpful. Many thanks!
